Chapter 6

I run down the stairs, with Smile and Grinny right behind me, and I bumped into Slenderman. He looked down at me, and I blushed, embarrassed.

"Good morning, child. How was your sleep?" he asked, and I smiled.

"It was great! I slept really well! How did you sleep?" I asked him, and he laughed.

"I do not sleep. Only the once humans are able to dream," he said, and I felt bad for the creature. I reached up, and pulled him down into a hug. He stayed frozen, and I laughed.

Suddenly, a bang echoed through the house, and Slenderman stiffened, and pushed me away gently. He looked at me, and I felt fear start gripping me. Slenderman spoke calmly and softly to me.

"Lucy, what I say now is very important, and it will determine if you live or die. Get BEN, and go into the attic. Stay there until I come up. He will protect you. Lock the door and go hide in the darkest corner you can find. Do you understand?"

I nodded numbly, as Slenderman turned away, yelled, "THE HUNTERS!"

I grabbed Grinny, and I sprinted up the stairs. I ran through the halls, and I saw what was going on outside. There were humans, lots of them, armed and furious. They were screaming so loudly that it hurt just to listen from inside.

"It's the hunters," Smile said, and I swallowed.

"Who are they?" I asked quietly.

"We hurt people... And sometimes the families of those people fight back, trying to hurt us back."

I nodded, and gripped Grinny even tighter.

"LUCY!"

I turned around to see BEN running towards me. He looked scared, and I hugged him as soon as he caught up to me.

"BEN, I'm scared," I whispered, and BEN nodded.

"I am too," he said, and he pulled away. He grabbed my hand, and we ran to the attic door. He pulled it down, and a ladder came down. I pushed Grinny up first, and BEN lifted Smile in. I climbed in after, and once BEN climbed in, he shut the door and locked it.

"Over there," he said, and I followed him into a corner near a window. He sat down, leaning against the wall, and I sat near him, shaking in fear. He pulled me close, so my head was leaning against his chest, and I relaxed.

From outside, all you could hear was the screaming of the people as they died. But, I heard a loud crack and a bang. BEN stiffened, and I looked up.

"They've gotten in. Oh shit, they've gotten in!" BEN said, and my heart sped up.

"Aren't there others in the mansion?" I asked, and BEN nodded.

"There's the Rake, Eyeless Jack, Laughing Jack, and Sally, but I'm not sure if they can hold the humans off. And some of them know..." BEN trailed off.

"Know what?" I asked, and BEN looked away.

"Lucy, we can die. But we can't be killed by things like knives and guns. We can only be killed by our own weapons. For me, it's electricity and technology. For Jeff, it's a knife."

"BEN... We have to go help! Those people are going to kill you all!"

BEN smiled slightly, and I felt my heart stop.

"I won't let them hurt any of us Lucy. I'm going to fight, and I'll be back soon, I promise. Smile and Grinny will stay with you. I'll see you soon," he said, kissing my forehead. He made his way to the door, and jumped down, leaving me alone.

Grinny crawled into my arms, and Smile lay at my feet. I began crying, scared out of my mind.

"Hey! There's a door!" I heard a gruff voice say, and a banging sound started. I bit my lip to keep from crying out, and suddenly light flooded into the attic. A man climbed up, and Smile jumped forward, attacking him. The man hit Smile backwards, and shot at the dog, sending him backwards, a hole blown through him.

"Sorry, Lucy. I'm so sorry," Smile said.

I cried out, and the man looked at me. "There's a human girl here! She's alive!" he yelled, as he climbed into the attic. He reached out for me, and Grinny jumped at him, scratching his face. He hit the cat back and shot at him too.

He grabbed me, and I fought back.

"Come on! You're going to die if you don't leave now!" he said, and I screamed. He grunted, and pulled a bag over my head, muffling the sound and blinding me. I felt myself be passed to someone else, and he threw me over his shoulder, and started running.

I felt the cold air of outside, and I heard BEN scream in rage.

"LUCY!"
