Chapter 8

BEN's POV

I couldn't believe it. They had taken Lucy! I would murder whoever had taken her, and whoever had helped them.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I turned to see Jeff.

"Hey, it's okay. Just because she's gone doesn't mean you won't find her."

I nodded, and Jeff pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back, and then it got awkward. We stood for a couple of seconds like this, before I pulled away. Jeff looked down, embarrassed.

"Anyways..."

"Yeah, thanks," I said, and Jeff slunk away. I heard barking from outside, and I opened the door. Smile burst through the door, panting. He collapsed by my feet, looking up at me, eyes wide.

"She's in the clock tower. I almost got inside, but they saw me. Sorry, BEN," Smile said, and I grinned at him.

"Good work boy," I said, and Smile grins, closing his eyes and falling asleep. I rub his side, and he begins to make little barking noises.

"Hey, BEN, what's up?"

I turned around to see Toby, leaning on his hatchet, staring at me. I gritted my teeth and Toby laughed.

"I can help you with your problem. I'm the most normal one here. I can get in. Lucy already knows me."

"How?" I asked, and Toby grinned manically.

"I'm Connor to her," he said, and he started laughing. "We almost went out. Well, until Eyeless Jack screwed it up. She's the One, BEN. She can change us."

I growled as Toby spoke. He looked at me, surprised.

"How can you say that? Lucy is normal! She is a human girl, just an ordinary human!" I yelled.

"Then why can't we kill her? Believe me BEN, we would if it was possible, but she can not physically die!"

I blinked in surprise. "She can't die?"

Toby shook his head. "No, we've all tried. Nothing has worked."

I paused, and looked at Toby, rage engulfing me. "Everyone has tried to kill Lucy?"

Toby nodded, and I sprang at him, hitting him and sending him to the ground. I punched him square in the face, and blood sprayed out.

"Damnit BEN!" Toby said, as he threw me off and lashed out at me. I received the punch, and pain spread through my nose. A spurt of blood covered me and the floor.

"STOP IT!"

Toby and I both turned to see Sally standing in the doorway, clutching her teddy bear and tears running down her face.

"How can you hurt each other? How can you watch each other bleed? I thought we all were looking for Lucy! But instead I find out trying to kill each other!" Sally said, and Toby and I exchanged a look.

I punched Toby once more, and stepped out the door, ready to look for Lucy.
