We trailed Annabeth for a good hour before she stopped next to a monstrous ship with a very loud crew inside. As she pulled up against the boat, she rapidly glanced at her surroundings (missing us due to a combination of a foggy night and presumably poor peripheral vision), then whistled a simple six-note tune. The celebration inside ceased for a moment, followed by the sound of a creaky set of stairs being used to the point of almost breaking. After the last of the groans and cracks had ceased from inside, followed by stomping on the poopdeck, a great many people whistled a response of seven notes, before throwing the ends of two ropes overboard. Annabeth tied one of the ends to a metal prong on the front of the boat, then turned around to tie the other end to an opposite prong before realizing that she hopped into the wrong boat in her rush to escape the London port. She put together a string of curses before tying the spare end around her waist and tugging on both strings. A second later, the crew above started to pull on the ropes, lifting the blonde haired girl up and onto the ship.
After the last traces of Annabeth had vanished, and the conversation on top of the boat resumed, Percy and I creeped closer to the ship. "How did that tune go? Re, fa, sol, fa, re, re?" Percy shrugged questioningly, although I had no clue as to what he meant.
"I don't know, Percy. Why do you need to?"
"I figure if that melody is some type of identification tag, we could repeat it and try to get up there!"
"Well then just try it!" My voice had grown slightly louder in response to my confusion and stress, but I hadn't realized it.
"Thalia," Percy whispered stressfully, "keep your voice down! They might hear you and then what would happen to us?"
"You said it yourself, Percy!" My voice continued to grow louder. "If I invited you along, Annabeth would convince Reyna to be more merciful if we got caught!"
"I said she might! Not that she would! Especially after what I did!" He raised his eyebrows, as if he were surprised that he said such a thing.
"What you did," I started to scream. "What did you do to her?!"
"Thalia, be quiet, we'll be discovered!" Percy whispered, attempting to dance around my question, but I wouldn't let up.
"You didn't answer my question! What did you do to her?"
"Thalia, you need to quiet down! They'll hear—"
"WHAT DID YOU DO?"
"I LEFT HER, THAT'S WHAT I DID!" Percy's face was red from screaming so loudly. "She, she loved me and I left her! I didn't want to hurt her, and what did I do? I left her! I just—" he broke down in deep, racking sobs. I tried to console him, but as I tried wrapping my arms around him he pushed me away. His crying was so loud that we did not hear the babble above us cease, nor did we notice a person diving from the plank of the ship to swim around and greet us.A/N: I almost forgot to post this chapter! Whoops! Ah well, I've been a bit busy with school over the past few days. I became a third wheel to two of my close friends, I'm getting mixed signals from my crush about whether or not he likes me, and of course, gym class is as awful as ever. But eh, next week will be better (hopefully)! Thank's for reading, hope you stick around! ~ Nicole
