NICO'S POV

The chilly air hit my face like a wave causing me to shiver and draw my hood, the fur tickling my face. I was standing at the edge of the railing on the Argo II. The war with Gaea was over and Leo wanted to take the Argo II out into the skies one more time.

Everyone else -the seven, Thalia and Grover- were eating. I wasn't really in the mood for eating so g for me. Stuffing my hands into my pockets, I descended down the stairs toward my cabin.  I heard soft footsteps on the deck signaling that Hazel had come looking for me. I silently groaned and shadow tracked to my room.

I let out a sigh and sat on the bed, my hair a complete mess. I hated it on this ship. Even Festus just left. It was a cold night, and I just wanted to be out of the sky and back on land.

I let out a sigh and dropped my hands from the railing. It wouldn't be long until Hazel came looking for me. A soft knock on my door made me grimace and stand.

"Hazel, I don't want to talk right now."

Hazel creaked open the door. "But whyyyy?!"

I let out an irritated sigh and opened the door. Hazel bounced in, her brown hair bouncing everywhere as she smiled at me widely. I only scowled.

Hazel sat on my bed. "You should really smile more."

"I'll smile when I'm in the perfect relationship or I find the best treasure in the world," I pulled Hazel off my bed and pushed her towards the door. "For now, I want you to leave."

"Nico-" I cut her off by slamming the door. Did I feel guilty? Yes, she was my sister. Well, somewhat. She wasn't like Bianca, but I could tell she cared for me and she wanted be like Bianca. I walked into the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes were dark brown and focused. My hair hung a little over my eyes but I never minded. Why? I wasn't too sure myself.

The fact that I accustomed to being alone had startled me. But I was even more surprised when I started to grow into a son of Hades. Bringing the dead back to life wasn't something your average sixteen year old kid would do. Unless they were working with dark magic or something... That's out of my comfort zone so I'm not even going to go there.

My thoughts drifted to Percy, how everyone loved him, how he was in a good relationship-

"What do you mean its not working out?" Percy. Loud and clear.

"Percy... Recently, I've well... Well, I don't think I'm straight." Annabeth.... Isn't straight?

There was a silence. I crept out of the bathroom and walked silently to the door. Am I eavesdropping? In another persons eyes, I would. In some others, like mine, I'm simply overhearing a conversation that happened out my door. Not eavesdropping.

Then I heard Percy laugh. "You have been staring at Piper a lot." There was short silence that lasted for about ten seconds before Percy was saying, "Ow, ow ow ow!"

I assumed Annnabeth punched him. I inched back from the door, about to leave when I heard a loud crash. I stumbled and the flying ship turned causing me to go flying, hitting the back wall. I winced and stood shakily.  I drew my sword and headed outside. Percy and Annabeth were no where to be seen and I was kinda relieved. I don't think I'm ready to hear about how Annabeth is starting to have a crush on Piper.

I headed up the stairs and was surprised to see that we were on the water. Jason was prowling on the deck, his sword in his hand. Everyone else was looking around, completely focused.

"Nico! Watch out!" Hazel screamed from the group.

I jumped to the side just as a giant tentacle launched itself down onto the deck. I ran over to the group as a giant shadow loomed above us.

"What is that?!" Piper screamed.

I looked up and saw the gigantic shadow of an octopus, red glowing eyes and eight tentacles flailing around.

Annabeth said shakily, "A kraken... Out of all the times."

"Yeah well we don't have enough gas to get out of here at top speed." Leo said with a scowl.

"So... Were basically fighting this thing?" Jason said with a small smile.

"Everyone else minds except you, Superman." Leo said frowning.

Did I mind? Just a little. I was not in the mood for fighting a kraken.

"We can't just kill him!" Percy shouted. "He's part of the ocean!"

Oh gods... How much I wanted to punch the daylight's out of him... I didn't have to, because Annabeth slapped the back of his head and screamed, "He's going to kill us!"

I was about to laugh but stopped when I noticed the giant tentacle heading toward us.

"Scatter!" Jason shouted. I jumped back as the tentacle launched itself onto the deck, wood splattered everywhere, smaller pieces hit my skin making my skin prickle. Jason was already heading toward the kraken. Percy was scowling at Jason's actions and headed toward the kraken himself.

"What idiots." Hazel deadpanned.

I nodded but soon I was also an idiot. The tentacle that had hit the deck wrapped itself around me and lifted me into the air. Well great. The tentacle squeezed and I gasped, dropping my sword onto the broken floorboards.

"Nico!" Hazel screamed from below.

I squirmed in the krakens grip but it was no use.  The krakens grip loosened a little and it let out a monstrous roar.

I glanced down and noticed an alligator, its jaws clamped down strongly at the base of the tentacle. Frank. I gritted my teeth and struggled in the grip of the kraken. It was a small grip but it was still strong. I let out a scream as the kraken squeezed. I could hear something breaking.

The kraken released me and I fell to the floorboards with a thud.

"Nico!" It was Percy. I struggled to stand but I couldn't. I was pretty sure my left arm and leg were broken. I glanced back at my leg. It was throbbing and a deep shade of purple had overtaken my regular pale skin.

I wanted to do something but I couldn't. I was useless. To Jason, I was more than that.
