Ring Ring
"Hello" I say.
"Hey Elle." Aurora says.
"Are we walking to school together today?" I ask.
"Umm, no, sorry. Mum insists on dropping me off for my first day back." She says.
"Really? Are you just embarrassed to be seen with me?" I ask, with a whole lot of attitude.
"No way! I'm your best friend! I can't believe you'd jump to conclusions like that!" She yells.
"Sorry. I'm just a bit shaken up." I apologise.
"I get that." She says.

"I don't know how I'll be able to go to school and see Ryan today. I'm so embarrassed!" I explain.
"That's a normal feeling. Don't worry, not everyone will know, and we'll get through this together." She says.
"Thanks for being there for me." I say.
"No problem. Anyway, I gotta go. Mum wants to leave NOW." Aurora says.
I hang up.

I walk down the stairs and into my kitchen, where my Mum and my two younger sisters are eating pancakes.
"Yum, can I have some?" I ask.
"No! You're going to be late for your first day of school." Mum says.
"Right, can you drop me off?" I ask.
"Why aren't you walking with Aurora? You're not in another fight are you?" She questions.
"Her mum is dropping her off." I sigh.
"Ok, well lets go."

"Have fun at school today!" Mum waves as I exit the car.
"That'll be hard." I frown.
"It's what you make of it." Mum says "Oh and after school, come straight to the cafe, you need to help out a bit."
"Yeah, yeah, I'll be there, I promise." I wave and Mum drives away.

As I enter school some girls laugh at me.
"Elle!" Aurora yells.
"Hey Aurora." I sit down so she sits down next to me.
"What's wrong?" She asks.
"People are laughing at me." I mumble.
"Who cares what they think! It's about what you think of yourself!" Aurora encourages.
"Sure." I mumble.
"It obviously wasn't going to pass overnight. You have to put up with it for a bit, ok? I'm here for you." Aurora insists.

Ring
"Ok, class! Have you got your projects, because they're due today?!" Mr Confetti, our Maths teacher, asks.
"Oh no! I forgot." I whisper.
"Me too." Aurora whispers.
"What are we whispering about?" Mr Confetti asks, in his naturally high voice.
"None of your business!" Aurora yells.
"Actually it is my business! Elle, where is your project?" He snaps.
"I forgot it." I admit, quietly.

"Detention! Both of you!" Mr Confetti yells.
Aurora rolls her eyes behind his back and I just sit quietly.

After  40 minutes of Maths, Aurora and I head to Science.
"Aurora! Elle!" Ryan yells.
We pause.
"Hey Ryan." I blush.
"What's up?" He asks.
I stand frozen so Aurora talks for me.

"We just got a detention." Aurora huffs.
"Bummer. When is detention, Elle?" Ryan asks.
I freeze, he asked me a question.
"Some time, today" I blush, even more noticeably.

"Ok. So this afternoon I'm having a Party. Wanna come?" He asks.
"I don't know, it could be lame, I don't want to risk it." I try to act cool.
"What she means is, we'd love to come and we will be there." Aurora smiles.
"Great, show up at my place bout' 30 minutes after school." He smiles, then he walks off.

"30 minutes after school" I repeat in shock.
"What?" Aurora asks.
"We have detention." I frown.
"So, we'll ditch. Easy." Aurora suggests.
"Oh, ok then." I force a smile.

The next classes fly past quickly.
Ring.
"Home time!" I yell.
"Shhh! Mr Confetti could be anywhere. Let's quickly sneak out of school." Aurora whispers.
Aurora and I make it all the way to the school gate before Mr Confetti catches us.
"What are you two going here?" He asks, angrily "I gave you detention!"
Mr Confetti leads us to the detention room.

The room is bare, and there are no colours what so ever, apart from beige.
"Take a seat girls." Mr Confetti orders "I'll be back, so don't move!"
Mr Confetti leaves the room. Since there aren't any other kids in the room, it's easy for us to sneak out the window.

We race for the school gate, quietly. We run out the school gate and onto the road trying to catch our breath.
"Let's go to my house and get dressed, it's not far from here." I suggest.
"Good idea." Agrees Aurora.

Knock Knock
Liza, my youngest sister, opens the door.
We hurry in.
"Mum said that if I see you, I had to tell you to go to the cafe." Liza says, while licking her lolly.

"Oh no! I completely forgot! I can't go to the party, I have to help Mum with the cafe!" I stress.
"No! You can't! You need to go to Ryan's party and you need to win him over! You've been through so much trying to impress him and when we get to the party, it could all be worth it! You can help your Mum whenever, this is your time to shine!" Aurora yells.
"You're right! This is my time, Mum will understand. Let's go get dressed!" Aurora runs upstairs.

"Wait! Elle! What about Mum, all by herself? She needs you, and you promised! You aren't going to give away your Mums trust for a boy, are you?" Liza asks.
"You don't get it Liza! It's more than that!" I run upstairs.

After 12 blocks of walking, Aurora and I smell like body odour and our feet hurt.
"We stink." I complain.
"My feet are killing me!" Aurora complains.
"I have a stitch!" I complain.
"Why didn't you just ask your Mum for a ride?" Aurora asks.
"She'd kill me! You don't get it!" I yell "Your the one that gave me the big speech on not giving up! Going to Mum would be like giving up."
We walk in silence.
"We're here." I smile.

Let's go party!
