"This Beach Party is the perfect way to get over Ryan." Aurora tells.
"You're lying." I roll my eyes.
"No. I'm not. I want you to be happy..." Aurora sighs.
"Whatever."
"You were invited, it would be rude not to show up." Aurora continues.
"She's my cousin, she'll understand." I huff.
"No, she won't. She's turning 21. It's her special day...and she really wanted to introduce you to her new boyfriend." Aurora explains.
I don't say anything.
Aurora sighs,"I know how close you guys are. Not showing up to her party...it'll break her heart."
I hesitate.
"Ok, fine. You're right. It'll break her heart if she doesn't see me there. I'll go to her party, give her a hug, meet her new boyfriend and leave. Ok?" I agree.
"Sounds perfect." Aurora smiles.
At the party.
"Elle! You're here!" My cousin, Lila, calls.
"Yeah." I blush.
We hug.
"And you brought Aurora!" She smiles.
"Yeah. I didn't think you'd mind." I say.
"I don't mind. In fact, it makes me really happy!" She giggles.
"Happy Birthday, Lila." Aurora smiles.
"You too." Lila smiles.
She's drunk.
"Ooooh, nice earrings Elle. I thought you hated jewellery..." Lila acknowledges my earrings.
"Actually, there Auroras...and I'm fine with jewellery, really." I insist.
"Ok then. Aurora you have great style." Lila giggles.
"Oh, here's my boyfriend!" Lila laughs, "His name is Jerry."
A tall, skinny guy wraps one arm around Lola's waist.
"Um, hey Jerry." I try to smile.
"Um, where'd you two meet?" Aurora asks.
"In the mall. He was working part time and I needed help looking for Gucci." Lila smiles.
"She's beautiful, isn't she." Jerry randomly adds.
"Yeah, she is." I try.
"You wanna meet my brother?" Jerry asks.
"Ummm." I try.
"Oh, yeah. He's your age." Lila insists.
"Really?" Aurora asks.
"Yeah." Lila smiles.
Lila lets go of Jerry and whispers in my ear, "He's almost as cute as Jerry."
And then she laughs.
"Look, this is your way of getting over Ryan." Aurora whispers.
"Let's meet him." I say, really loudly.
"Hey Ryan, come over here! Some girls I want you to meet." Jerry yells.
Cringe. It feels like everyone is watching, but they're not.
"Did he say Ryan?" Aurora asks.
"Yep." I nod.
Ryan walks towards us. My Ryan.
