I sat wondering the entire time where I might have seen him before, but by the time we got to the house, I had come up with nothing. He must have been a new face to me.
Once we pulled into the driveway, my father and I both got out and helped the moving trucks back up to the house. As soon as they had gotten right where we needed them, we all got to work moving the boxes from the trucks to the house.
Without hands full with boxes, we approached the door, where my dad had just unlocked and opened the door. We all entered and sat the boxes anywhere with open space. One by one we unloaded one of the trucks, and we watched as it pulled off and parked farther down the long driveway.
Soon we had the next truck backed up and we started unloading. As the adults unloaded, I snuck off to check out the house. Upstairs, I found the room we had planned to be mine.
Its walls were a dark purple, with a walk-in closet, a bathroom branching off, and three windows. Other than that, it was empty except for a chair the previous owners left behind. I slid the chair out of the corner it sat into one of the windows.
I angled it slightly facing the window so it would be the best spot to sit and read. I planned where my bookshelf would go and where everything else would go before sitting down and sighing. I hope this move wasn't a mistake.
I looked out the window, enjoying the view of the forest behind the house. To be honest, I've never spent any time out in nature, being I had lived my childhood in the city, where the only tree was the occasional one or two in front of small businesses, though they were always small and in larger flower pots.
I slowly scanned the yard, starting on one side of the yard, and slowly moving to the other side. In the middle of the yard, there was a large apple tree, with a smaller one neighboring it. I smiled, imagining the homemade apple desserts I could cook.
I continued looking across the large yard until I got to the other side of it, noticing then that there was a small group of boys in the tree line. I squinted, trying to get a better look before taking off down the stairs to find the door to the backyard.
Once I found it, I walked outside, and towards the group. By the time I had fully approached them, they still hadn't noticed me.
"Umm.... hello?" I stated. A few of them turned to look at me, and there stood the boy who I had saw earlier.
"Hey... didn't know someone bought this old place," one of them said, smirking as they looked me up and down. Just as their eyes had reached my feet, the boy from earlier pushed... well threw, him into a tree. His head snapped back quickly as he hit three tree, and he slumped to the ground, knocked out cold.
I turned to face the boy from earlier, to find him standing right in front of me, looking down on me. I looked up to his face, realizing he was at least two feet taller than me.
"Don't mind him, he's the man slut around here," he said. His voice was deep, and his eyes weren't as dark as they were earlier.
"I'm kinda used to it.... being from the city and all," I mumbled, looking down. Suddenly I had this very anxious, nervous feeling. He slowly reached down and pulled my face up to look at his. It felt so right, but I knew it was wrong, I didn't even know this guy.
"You guys wanna help unload since your here?" I asked, taking a step back from him. A pang of hurt ran across his face but he quickly covered it.
He cleared his throat, "Uhhh yea, we can help," He said, looking to his friends, who had slowly backed away from the two of us. He slightly flicked his head and they all started walking towards the house. I turned and half followed half lead them to the front where my dad was looking around.
