"You don't have to be such an ass about it." I state as I walk past Ethan and our history project.
"I'm just saying. You should have just put it on the other side of the picture. It flows more." He looks up at me and starts to tap his pen on his leg.
"Because the Egyptian gods would care so much about how well a project about their social system that two seniors are doing, flows. Very important." I say sarcastically and he throws his pen at me lightly.
"They might. I've read books where gods can get pissed at pretty much anything." I roll my eyes and sit down across from Ethan, project in between us.
We had been working for 3 hours on a project that was due tomorrow morning in class and it was slowly approaching midnight.
"Of coarse you've read something like that." I yawn as I finish writing some of the last facts we needed. I see Ethan yawn in the corner of my eye. "What time is it?"
"11:57 so we should probably go to bed soon." I reply and he looks up at me. "Who said you were staying the night?" He asks me with attitude.
"Um, your dad. I asked when I walked in." He just rolls his eyes at me but laughs. "Of coarse you did. And of coarse he let you, he loves you. And he knows we would never do anything like... that." He wiggles his eyebrows in a suggestive way.
I nod my head in agreement. "I think after 16 years of knowing me, he would know I would never do that." Ethan laughs as he finishes his part of the project.
"True. Very true. So... how's it look?" I finish my last fact and hold the board up for him to see. "Perfect. Smithson has to give us an A with that. At least. But there's one thing wrong..." He trails off and uncaps a marker.
Ethan leans in and moves his hand last second, drawing a line of ink across my nose and cheek. "Oh you're such an asshole!" I rub my cheek and he falls back onto the floor, laughing.
He holds his sides and rolls around while he laughs hysterically. I decide grab a blue marker and return the favor, drawing a streak in blue ink across his forehead.
"Hey!" He almost screams and we both start laughing even more. He shushs me so we don't wake up his dad and we eventually calm down.
"You're a dick. You know that?" He simply smiles and winks at me.
"At least I don't suck them." I dramatically drop my jaw and he laughs.
"That's debatable." I mumble as I stand up and walk into the bathroom connected to his room. I look in the mirror to see a dark streak across my face.
"This will never come off! And we have school tomorrow." I grab a towel and turn on the water in the sink. I use some face wash and scrub my face.
Eventually I'm able to get most of it off but you can still see a faint streak of ink on me. I walk back in to see Ethan had changed into sweats and a long sleeve shirt.
"Are you going to go wash that off?" I ask as I grab some clothes to change into. He simply shakes his head and smiles.
"Nope. I think it suits me. Very avant-garde. Don't you think?"
"Uh huh sure. I have to admit, blue does suit you very well." I state and I walk back into the bathroom to change.
I walk back out to see Ethan holding a pillow and some blankets. "Whose taking the floor?" I ask.
"I'm taking the couch. You can have my bed." I give him a confused look.
"If we sleep in the same room, we will get so much crap. I'm sleeping down stairs, just to avoid any assumptions that could be made in the morning." He grabs another pillow and his phone off the bed.
"I could have taken the couch but thanks." He just smiles at me and I return it.
"Now go. It's late and I know you're going to get on your phone for an hour once you're down there." He rolls his eyes but doesn't object to the accusation. He hugs me and kisses the top of my head as I start to shoo him out of the room.
"Goodnight, E." I see him walk down the dark hallway and hear a mumbled reply. He hits something and curses.
"Shit! I forgot there were boxes there." He whispers and I shake my head as I close his door.
I crawl into his bed and turn off the bedside light as I grab my phone. I turn it on and see that I have 4 texts, and a snapchat.
3 of the texts are from my dad making sure I was staying here and to sleep well. The last one was from Ethan saying how he missed his warm bed. I shake my head but smile slightly as I reply, saying it's too late to get the bed now.
The snapchat is from Ethan as well and I open it to see an empty living room with the TV on. It read "when someone takes your bed fml"
I send one back saying that I didn't take it, he gave it up willingly. He doesn't respond and I turn off my phone after making sure I had an alarm on for school.
I wake up about an hour later when someone opens the door. I see Ethan walk in and flip on the light. "What the hell are you doing?! It's like 1:30 and we have school tomorrow." He just shrugs and walks towards the window.
"I couldn't sleep. And I wanted to show you something." He pulls the curtains back and I see that it was snowing lightly.
"When did that start?" I ask as I push the duvet off of me. "A few hours ago."
Ethan unlocks the window and pushes it open, cold wind blasting through. "Fucking hell, man! Warn me!" He ignores my comment and crawls onto his roof. I grab one of his sweatshirts from his desk and pull it over my head, soon following him.
"Careful, don't slip." He holds out a hand and helps me towards a part of the roof that was flatter. We sit next to each other and I see that he had brought out a couple blankets.
Ethan had laid one down on the cold roof and pulls another over the both of us.
"I wanted to show you this. It's so peaceful at night. No loud neighbors or barking dogs." I nod my head in agreement but soon realize he probably couldn't see me. "Yeah. The snow is like a little blanket. Too bad everything will be pushed to the side in the morning."
"That's why I wanted to enjoy it with my best friend while it was peaceful." He leans his head on my shoulder and I smile into the dark night.
"You know... you're the best friend I could ask for. I'm really happy you're always there for me." Ethan whispers and I look down at the snow covering his brown tuff of hair.
"I'm really thankful for you, too. We've been friends for a while. Through thick and thin, as cliche as that sounds." I say with a slight laugh. he picks his head up and looks towards me.
"Would you stay beside me through anything? No matter what happens between us." He asks with a serious tone.
"Of coarse... is something wrong? Did something happen?" He shakes his head slightly but doesn't look away.
"I love you. More than just a best friend. You're my sister and I just... I'm happy to have you here with me. I could never imagine anyone else being here with me. Not a girlfriend, not another best friend." I smile as he gives me a side hug.
"I love you too. You're my brother and no one could replace you." I state.
A comfortable silence falls between us as we gaze at the street and the lights from houses still up at this hour. After a little while we decide to go back inside, knowing we needed a little sleep to get through the day to come.
"Goodnight, E. Love you." He gives me another hug and heads out of his room, down to the first floor.
"Goodnight." He says as he walks down the hallway and I shut his door with a smile.
I was one lucky girl to have a best friend like him.
A/N: That was originally going in another direction but oh well. I didn't want everything on here to be about love and stuff. I wanted one more fluffy and warm thing before the next one which will be a little... darker. Ill try and get that as soon as i can.
