"Honey, you're going to catch flies." I glance my head up towards Sarah as she starts laughing. "If you're that into him... I don't know, talk to him."
I roll my eyes before turning my attention back to my screen. "I wasn't staring, by the way. I was just... appreciate good looking things. Plus I can't just talk to him. Who does that?"
"Normal people." I shoot her a glare but she doesn't acknowledge it. "Do you even know his name? He's been here for 2 weeks and all you've done is stare at him and talk about how you guys have the same world lit class."
"While you do have a point, as bull shit as it is, I do know his name and I have actually talked to him. He asked for some notes since he sits behind me and I let him borrow mine." Sarah raises an eyebrow and my cheeks flush slightly.
"Oh look at Ms. Flirtatious right here. Maybe you should at least try. Even if it's about class, it would be a start." She gives me a sympathetic look but i brush it off.
"I'm not some hopeless puppy, so don't look at me like that. But yeah, maybe I'll try later... Maybe."
"Uh huh, sure. I don't really see him talking to that many people yet. Maybe he just needs a friend in this hell hole of a school." I nod my head in agreement as I go back to work on the project we had been assigned.
Sarah makes conversation and I give short answers for the rest of class as my mind wanders about the new kid. Why the hell couldn't I stop thinking about talking to him?! I almost laugh at myself with how cliche it sounded.
Crushing on the new kid... what a classic. But I couldn't help it. He was cute and had a nice laugh. He seemed nice enough the one time we exchanged a few words. Maybe talking to him wouldn't be so bad... no it would be a nightmare. I'm never the one to talk to new kids, they're never anything like me.
It's usually just the same type of kids that usually end up being instantly popular or the really weird ones that sit in a corner and look like they've committed some serious crimes. It could just be my school, though.
"Liz. Lizzz... The bell just rang. Time for last period." I look up to see the other kids leaving and I quickly save my work. Sarah smiles at me as she waits and I grab my stuff.
"Ten bucks you won't talk to him." She verbally jabs at me as we make our way towards our next building. "Throw in a trip to Dairy Queen, loser buying, and you'll have yourself a deal." I wink at her before laughing.
"Ok, Missy. Have fun buying my ice cream later." She makes her way to her own class after nudging me slightly.
I continue towards my class but when I walk in, I see that we had a substitute. And a giant like of packets on the desk. The older, pudgy lady motions for us to walk in and sit without talking.
Sighing, I slide into my seat and pull out my headphones before everyone else gets in. I tune out the end of the day announcements and the sub when she starts blabbing about the packet being due at the end of class.
The sub hands out the packets and taps my shoulder when she passes me. "No headphones, Miss. This is a partner assignment so grab a buddy. It's for a grade."
I mumble a yes ma'am before turning back towards my seat and rolling my eyes. I glance at the paper and decide to just finish it fast and on my own so I could sleep the rest of class.
Not long after I've started, I feel another tap on my shoulder. "Hey... Do you think you could help me with this?"
I turn around and feel a slightly kick in my stomach when I realized who asked me. "Uh, sure? I guess. I was going to do it on my own since I don't really talk to anyone in here."
