memories

I am awaken by the sound of the door opening and keys rustling, I opened my eyes and look at the peaceful looking Colby, his hair was messy and in his face, covering his closed eyes. My hair had fallen out if the bun it was in last night and it's a mess. Colby's arm is still lying across my stomach, same as it was last night when we fell asleep.  I rub my eyes and  my vision adjusts and my eyes fall upon the opening of the of the fort. I hear footsteps and then Sam appears in the opening, and he smirks,

"no Sam, nothing happened, we are just friends" I whisper 

"okay" Sam says smirking still

Colby rolls over and his arm leaves my body and I get cold, I take this chance and get up and sit on the couch next to Sam.

"if you are 'just friends' then why did you guys make a romantic fort and cuddle and sleep together" Sam asks

'It was Colby's idea and we fell asleep next to each other and kind-sorta got close" I explain

"Okay, I understand" Sam replies "but can you be honest with me"

"what?" I ask

"do you like Colby" Sam asks, I feel my cheeks heat up and I look away

"I think that answers my question" Sam replies

I sigh "I've thought he was cute ever since I laid eyes on him" I whisper and get up to make sure Colby is still asleep, then I go back to my seat "Then when I got to know him I felt myself falling for him, he's just so nice, funny, and sweet" I whisper

Sam nods  "I understand, when I met Kat, I felt the same way" he says "To be honest, I think he likes you too"

"really?" I ask getting excited

"yeah, I've known him for years and I know how he reacts when he's around a girl he likes, and I have a feeling he likes you, so don't be scared to make a move" he winks and gets up from he couch "I'm gonna go shower, but if you ever need to talk, just know you can talk to me."

"thank you" I reply.

I crawl back into the fort and get under the blankets and go on my phone and scroll through instagram and check my snapchat stories, soon Colby wakes up.

Colby groans and looks at me, I look back at him and he smiles, "morning" he says in his cute morning voice, ugh why is he so attractive. "Morning" I say back.

Time goes by and the sun begins to set, and now Colby and I are sitting on the couch, we took our fort down about and hour ago. Colby's phone rings and he gets up and answers it. He comes back shortly
"Hey my friend is here and he wants to talk to me, I'll be back" colby says
"Okay" I answer, colby leaves and I make my way to the balcony, I sit in the lawn chair and look out at the beautiful view of California that I'm so grateful to be able to see everyday, as I look into the colorful, lilac sky I remember how much my mom loved sunsets, suddenly I am taken back in time....

"Ah, another end to a beautiful day" my mom said

"Why do you love sunsets so much" my 8 years old self asked

"They are very meaningful and romantic" she said

"How are sunsets romantic?" I asked

"Well, you see, the sun loves the moon so much, that it does every night the sun dies to let the moon shine" she said

I feel my eyes fill with tears, soon a few roll down my cheeks, I miss my mom so much, she always had a positive view on life, she always found good in the absolute worst situations, and she make my childhood meaningful, and she taught me how to love myself.

At this point my eyes are pouring out tears, yet I remain silent, my face remained straight, but I couldn't help myself, my eyes just wouldn't stop, I block out everything in life and just think how much I miss my mom.

I am snapped out of my thoughts when I see a tall figure standing next to me, it's Colby..

"Hazel, what's wrong?" He asked kneeling down next to me and putting a hand on my knee.

"It's my mom" I say and buried my face in my hands

"What? What's wrong" colby asked, that's when I realized, he had no idea, what happened to my mom, why I moved to Kansas. Well I guess it's time to explain...

Time goes by and now it's completely dark outside, and the moon is shiny bright, I have finally finished explaining EVERYTHING to Colby, and he understands completely.
He stands up and pulls me into a hug, we don't let go and then Colby lifts me up and places my butt on the edge of the balcony.
"Colby what the hell?" I almost scream and tighten my grip on him

"Do you trust me?" He asked

"Well considering I just spilled my guts out to you about my mom, yeah" I answered

"Good, then relax" he said while placing his hands around my waist, we made eye contact and held it for what felt like forever, our faces were inches apart and I felt safe, for the first time in ever, out here on the edge this balcony, with Colby's strong arms tightly around my waist and our faces inches apart, the sky lit up by the moon and all the lights from the busy streets of LA. It's was perfect.

and in that moment, I swear we were infinite. ✨
