Fran's POV

I tucked my hair behind my ear, while resting my head against the airplane window. I sighed for the thousand time, when I felt another kick on the back of my seat. I picked at my chipped finger nails while trying to keep my composure. My mother was busy enveloped in her blanket while watching 'The Notebook' on her computer.

"Why couldn't I have a happy ending" she cries, "It's not fair" she continued while digging her head into the armrest.

"Mom... Everything's going to be okay" I said, while gently rubbing her back.

The truth was; my father cheated on my mother, when they had been married for over 20 years. She was so heart broken that she not only decided to leave the city, but the god damned country. Last year I started college at UC Berkeley but once the news broke out about my fathers affair; I told her I would be by her side, and that's what I'm doing. We're right now on a plane to London, and Im growing more and more agitated at the child who is behind me. All week I've been to busy worrying about her to even fathom the fact that I would have to enroll myself into another university.

"I called the university in London yesterday" my mother said sitting up in her seat. "They'd like you to attend the orientation".

"I don't know mom. I kind of thought us taking off to Europe, I could take a year off from school and maybe get a job" I spoke.

"Us going to London shouldn't halt your schooling, your father will be the one paying for it" her voice strained, "It's the least he can do"

"Well regardless I need to get a job" I insisted, "do you know where we'll be staying"

"Yes, I found an apartment just outside London" "Its Affordable, and spacious" "I hope you don't mind sharing a bathroom though" a faint smile appeared on her face.

"As long as you don't hog the sink, it's fine by me" I laughed, but was silenced when I felt another kick on the back of my chair.

I dug into my bag for a piece of gum and quickly shoved it into my mouth, to distract myself. I leaned my head back and slowly fell into a deep slumber.

I woke to my mother shaking me, saying we had just arrived. I lazily sat up and turned my head to look out the window. I couldn't exactly see much from the perspiration on the glass, but I could make out the lights of the city.

My mother quickly stood up from her seat while hurling herself to the exit doors. I tried to keep my pace up with her, but was blocked by people waiting to leave. I looked down on my right to see the boy that was sat right behind me on the plane. When he looked up, I shot him a little glare, which caused him to give me the middle finger. My mouth fell but was quickly closed when I saw the line moving. I was soon by my mothers side helping her with our luggage. After everything was loaded into the car, we got in.

"I'm sorry I left, I was just so excited" she squealed while putting the car into drive.

"Mom in Europe they drive on the left" I stated while taking in the scenery.

She then changed lanes while muttering a 'My Bad'.

The drive to the apartment was silent, not awkward at all just quiet. I think we both were taking in our surroundings while letting everything sink in.

We soon approached an apartment complex which was just outside the city. My mother then parked the car into our assigned parking spot while leading me and our luggage to the place we would call home for the next three years.
