Your perspective:

Although it was a tough call, it still beats facing El Gigante for a second time. Our attempt to sneak into the camp was thwarted as soon as we entered, because a yell echoed through the entire setup, alerting the others to our presence.A woman approached us, and I quickly aimed my laser at her leg and fired, causing her to cry out in pain. She held her wound but was kicked away by Leon.He then slashed her repeatedly with his knife until she crumpled to the ground and dissolved into the muddy earth.

I could hear the sound of more footsteps approaching and readied my gun. Leon had spotted a cover across the way and directed Ashley to hide in it. Realizing the danger we were in, Ashley quickly obeyed Leon's command and ran to take cover in the nearby dumpster.

"Ready?" I asked as I held my weapon close to my body, ready to break for it.

"Let's get them." Leon said determinedly as he shot a man running towards us.

Not seeing the laser sight in time, I accidentally shot a wagon, causing it to explode and kill the majority of them. Leon praised me as he defeated a parasite that appeared from a woman. We made our way to a ladder that led to a wooden structure where more villagers were stationed, resulting in Leon taking them down with ease. I glanced around and saw another dumpster that Ashley could hide in, so without Leon's consult, I whistled for her. I can be an idiot sometimes, and let me tell you, this was one of those times.

I didn't consider the possibility of more Ganados entering from the door we came in, and Ashley's scream echoed throughout the camp. I immediately jumped to the action of correcting my mistake but slipped from the edge, colliding with the cold ground on my side. I yelped in pain as I forced myself to get up and get Ashley, hugging my arm as I did so. My aim was a little off, but the shot took down the man. She ran behind my back and took cover as I killed the infected being.

Her fingers lightly brushed the injured spot, causing me to wince in pain. I knew I couldn't continue like this. But, I can't leave Leon alone in this mess and put him in a dangerous situation. As a last resort, as a last resort, I firmly took Ashley's hand and led her to the dumpster where she would hide for the majority of the fight. Before closing the lid, however, I grabbed her sweater that was neatly tied to her and made a sling. She shook her head and pulled me inside the container with her.

"Are you psycho? You can't fight with an injury like that!" Ashley angrily scolded me as she fitted the homemade sling into a better one.

I shook my head as tears streamed down my face; the pain was really taking over me now. Luckily, I had kept an herb from earlier with me that could aid in a quicker recovery. Since my energy was low, I had Ashley crush the plant and prepare it for consumption. She scoffed as she handed it back to me, "Herbs may be good for your health, but they can't speed up the process of healing a broken bone!"

In the midst of her monologue, I began to drift off, and before I knew it, I had slipped into unconsciousness.

      ...

My sleep was cut short when a familiar whistle went off. Ashley had placed me on her folded lap as she tried any attempt to bring me out of the sudden episode of unconsciousness. Seeing me open my eyes caused her to sigh in relief, somehow grateful to get a glimpse that I was okay. I sat up slowly, holding my head gently as she gave my back one last rub before getting up and opening the container to exit. I took my time to leave, knowing Ashley would inform Leon about my condition.

I fastened the sling Ashley had made, making it more comfortable for the whole arm. I knew from the silence outside that Leon had cleared the whole area and had been waiting for us to catch up. After a few minutes of resting, I get out and hold my arm close, trying to remain careful for the intense throbbing around the left shoulder blade. Catching up to where both were, I could feel their eyes cast on the clothed part. Looking up, I could see his eyes widen at my injury, and as if his gawking wasn't enough, he began to examine the area.

"What happened to your arm? How did you do this? What's broken?"

He bombarded me with questions. I chuckled at his anxiousness and told him a summary of my quick story,

"I slipped from the terrace and landed on my side, but don't worry about the rest. Though, I think my clavicle is broken."

He traced my collarbone as I clenched my eyes shut.
Do they not understand the concept of an injury? Why do they keep touching it!

"Sorry, that must've hurt," he said while frowning,

"This is my fault. I should've been at your side to help you, but I wasn't. I guess you can't help me anymore." I sighed and looked away.

Leon's comment didn't make sense to me, so I asked him to clarify.

"What do you mean I can't help you anymore?" I questioned, puzzled by his statement.

He looked at me seriously, "The reason we're here is to find Ashley and bring her back safely. But with your injury, you won't be able to fight at your full capacity. We'll have to be more careful from now on, and I'll have to do most of the fighting."

I nodded in understanding. It made sense, but it still frustrated me. I wanted to help, but I knew I had to take care of myself first if I wanted to be of any use to the mission.

"Don't worry, I'll still do what I can," I said with determination. "I won't let my injury stop me from doing my part."

Leon gave me a small smile, "I know you will. You're tougher than you look."

His features softened, displaying a caring glint in his eye, and he did something I didn't expect. Leon moves close and lowers down slightly, exposing the top of his head. It blocked my view, but I could feel the warmth for a second. He comes back up, but I stare in shock at his previous action.

     "Did... you just kiss..."

"Is it better? I hope it makes up for neglecting my partner," He smirks.

My cheeks fumed, burning hotter than the sun in the desert. I shift my sight away quickly, afraid to let him see the bright crimson that replaced all normal color.

Our moment was interrupted by a high-pitched voice.

"Sorry to break the moment, lovebirds, but we gotta get moving!"

Ashley spoke up, breaking the awkward tension between us. Leon chuckled and stood up, offering me a hand to help me up as well. I gratefully accept, and we start making our way towards the next objective.

As we walked, I couldn't help but think about the kiss. It was just a friendly gesture, right? But why did it feel like so much more? I shake my head, trying to clear my thoughts. Focus on the mission, I remind myself.

We reach the next area, and Leon starts explaining our plan of attack. As he speaks, I can't help but admire his leadership skills and how he always manages to stay cool under pressure. Despite my injury, I'm ready to take on whatever comes our way with Leon and Ashley by my side.

A view of a door came into sight as we jogged down the path that acted as a bridge. As we came closer, a golden decor was visible, but something was weird about it. In a brief overview, Leon indicated that the door was a scanner that needed a specific eye to access. Damn...

Dun, Dun, DUN! Uh oh, it seems like little ol' reader has to babysit while Leon works alone. Ahahaha!

I feel evil, but I wanted to create a conflict that shows the vulnerability of a character. It was originally supposed to be Leon, who broke the bone, but like, he's the leading bad ass. So that threw him outta the question.

I hope you guys are enjoying the story so far because I'm enjoying writing it! Please vote, comment, and keep reading!!!

XoXo, my little ass-kickers,
