What's in a name?

Turns out, a lot is.

Or at least, a lot should be.

The name should be the books identity, not some random words you strung together to make something pseudo-meaningful. I, too, have faced the dilemma of having a good plot and everything, but not finding an appropriate name for a book. It's hard, I know, but that does not mean you disregard the name or choose a random word and pass it off as a name.

Think of your book as your child, man. A

The name is a very important part of a book and as much as a person denies it, everyone does judge a book by its name and cover. I definitely do.

First impressions matter. Your stupid fantasies about a (tall, dark and) mysterious title do not.

So, the point is, don't name your books some kind of nonsense.

Also.

Remember that it's supposed to be a title and not a bloody damn summary.

I mean I see those idiots whose books have names longer than my hit list, I just lose it. And then add their names to said list. Try to avoid that, will ya?

Therefore, to sum it up:

Title must be:
a. Short.
b. Meaningful.
c. Not a pain in the neck (Note the euphemism).

Thank you.

P.S. On a completely unrelated note, is it a coincidence that I keep seeing writers replace 'definitely' with 'defiantly'?

Love,
A tired still_awesome.
