It all started while I was playing Club Penguin™ in the last few days before Disney closed it forever. A notification popped up on my computer that Professor Kukui, a longtime friend of my mom, was glad that we had arrived to Alola safely. I smiled at this and looked outside at the bright sunlight shining into my room. It was the perfect getaway for my mom and I, what with the beaches, islands, and tropical appearance.
I'm not sure exactly when my dad had left us on his quest to go find the legendary Pokémon Ho-oh, but we hadn't heard from him since his letter saying that he landed in the Johto region almost 4 years before. I was 11 when we started anew in Alola, old enough to go on the island challenge, even though you're legally allowed a Pokémon at 10. We kept a Meowth at home, but I was never too charismatic, so I didn't have any Pokémon of my own yet. However, I had been studying up on alolan forms of already existing Pokémon, which I considered to be a scientific marvel. It was just like a permanent form change!
The professor left a few more messages, but the main idea was clear: he would be coming over as soon as he could to help me get my first Pokémon! At this point I was both nervous and excited, for the starters of Alola were the best I had seen so far. I didn't hate a certain one of the three, and the middle evolutions were almost as good as the finals! I hadn't yet decided which of them I wanted, but I felt that I would know when the time came to choose. Quickly, I ran out of my room as soon as I heard the doorbell signalling the start of a new life in a new region.
