Amori pulled up to see her mother's car sitting in her drive way. She was excited about seeing her. She'd given getting in contact with her brother some thought so she wanted her to go through this with her before telling her sisters anything. She unlocked the door and walked in. "Ma!" She called as she locked the doors behind her. "Kitchen." Amori could smell the food as she made her way further into the house. "Hey baby." Beverly greeted. "Hi. What brings you to town?" She asked curiously as she nibbled at some of the fruit and vegetable out on the counter her mother had diced. "Just decided to come visit my girls. Had some social work out here to check into so why not pay a visit." Amori nodded. "How was your day?" She'd asked in return. Amori shrugged. "It was a day I guess. Got a new client." She nonchalantly answered. Beverly raised an eyebrow waiting for an answer. "Zahier. Zahier Olson." Beverly shook her head. "That's bad baby." Amori sighed. "It's just business mama." Beverly knew how those two were about each other. Nothing good would come from it. "Well in other news I got something I want to talk to you about." Amori told her, changing the subject.
Beverly looked at her from what she was doing and gave Amori her full attention. She saw the hesitation on her face. "What is it baby?" She asked in concern. Amori sighed. "I'm ready to meet him." She finally told her. Beverly sighed. "I don't want you to think that's why I'm here baby. Do what you think is best for you." She expressed. Amori smiled genuinely at her. "I'm sure I want to do this. Let him know." Beverly walked over and hugged her daughter tightly. "Good. Now how is Dallas taking this Zahier news?" She asked going back to what she was doing. Amori cleared her throat. "He popped up didn't he?" Beverly asked. Amori sighed and nodded. Before she could answer the door bell rang. "I'll get it." Amori slid off the stool and made her way to the door thinking it was Dallas she just swung it open. Her words were instantly caught in her throat. "Oh my baby girl you've grown so much." It was her mother, Fiona. "Well baby who is it?" Beverly called, heading towards her. Unable to speak or break her trance she looked back at Beverly with tears. "Who is it child?" She asked just as she made it to the door. "My mother. Fiona." She was finally able to get out. Beverly's face became solid. "Afternoon to you too Beverly." She sneered. "What are you doing here Fiona?" She replied. She sighed and looked at Amori who had so many emotions swimming in her eyes but anger won that war. She could see it. "I came to see my daughter." Beverly shook her head. "You mean my daughter. She was no longer yours the second you signed your rights over to your poor mother and left her to fend on her own. I cared for her once her grandmother passed. Legally and rightfully I am this child's mother so I would appreciate if you leave and don't come back." Beverly said through force. Amori still frozen couldn't stop this battle because she knew it was coming. Beverly was right, Fiona had no ties to her but why was it she felt obligated to hear her out. She just couldn't bring herself to it right now. She needed to think. "My mom is right. You should leave." Fiona was bitten by those words. It stung but she knew she'd talk to her somehow. Fiona gave a sad smile. "This is my card. My cell, office and home number is on there and my email as well. If you change your mind and want to talk just please give me a call or something. I do want to talk Amori. I have so much to explain." Amori hesitantly took the card and walked away. She needed a drink and fast. "Beverly." "Fiona." She heard them exchange their dry goodbyes. Once she heard the door close she released the breath she didn't know was there and took the first drink in one gulp. "You okay baby girl?" Beverly asked. "Not one word to the girls or Dallas. I'm not ready to deal with that situation just yet. I can't." Beverly understood so she nodded and left it be. "Why don't you go shower while I finish dinner and we can watch a movie of your choice with peach cobbler afterwards. Amori smiled and nodded. That was always her cheer up treat. At this moment she really just needed to be under her mother.
A couple days had passed since the incident and since she left the house. She hadn't been answering her phone and she cancelled her date with Zahier. Once she heard her name being called from the den, she knew it wouldnt be long before they came searching. Dallas walked in to find her balled up on the couch, hair in a messy bun, blanket cocooning her and cartoons on surrounded by take out boxes every where. It was a bad sight so he knew something major happened. "What'd he do to you? He instantly asked, rushing over to her. She looked at him and tears began to fill her eyes. "She's back." He looked at her confused but let her keep going. "Dallas my mother showed up on my front door step 2 days ago expecting me to welcome her with open arms when I haven't seen her since I was 5. She didn't even come to Grams funeral. She left me all alone and now she pops back up after 19 years and expect it all to just be okay. Like I would welcome her with open arms." Dallas just let her talk and cry and get it out of her system. After she finally stopped he knew she needed the fresh air so he was going to take charge. Luckily Emmett was in his carseat asleep and slept hard. Amori didn't notice. "We're gonna get you in a shower because you really need one. I'm gonna clean up around here and we're gonna get you out of the house for some fresh air and a clear mind. Okay? And I'm not asking." Amori reluctantly went along with plans still not noticing the car seat. By the time she showered, got dressed and tamed her mane, Dallas cleaned the kitchen and den and was currently playing with his son. She instantly smiled once seeing him. "Hello there handsome. She said as he giggled once he saw her. "Ready to go?" He asked. She smiled weakly and nodded.
Dallas felt like she needed real food instead of more take out so he headed over to his parents plus they were keeping Emmett tonight so it was a win win. "You tryna use your mama's good cooking to trap me?" She joked as they climbed out of the truck. He chuckled. "Is it working?" He asked with a smirk. "It worked a long time ago. I was always here for the food buddy. Not you." She replied, starting to feel a little better. He laughed. "Oh that's just cold Mori." He replied as they walked up the long lit pathway. "What can I say. Easiest way to my heart is my stomach and your mama sure knows how to get there." She replied as she smelled the soul food in the air. She could smell the cabbage with bacon, ham and sausage, the fried chicken, the mashed potatoes, the brocolli with creamy cheese, the sweet corn bread in the oven and an apple pie. Amori nose and senses was in heaven and she couldn't wait to eat. "Hey ma." Dallas spoke as he made his way through the kitchen. "Hey baby. Now where's that handsome grandson of mine?" She asked Dallas chuckled and stepped to the side as Amori held him in her arms. "Well isn't this a surprise. Hello Amori, how are you doing?" She said as they embraced in a quick hug. "I'm doing well. I hope you don't mind my intrusion for dinner." She replied. "No not at all. There's plenty. Plus my boys know when a pretty lady needs to eat. Ain't that right little Emmett?" He squealed at her comment with happiness. "Dallas, go set the table and Amori, you two wash up while I get my cornbread out of the oven. Dinner is ready." Amori took Emmett and went to do as she was told. Dallas could see that she was still bothered during dinner but she did a great job of hiding it.
"What?" She asked as they sat on the front porch eating their ice cream and apple pie. "Nothing." He replied. She looked at him with a smirk. "Stop being a dork and just tell me what." She told him. They were sitting close. Tingles were sitting through the both of them. Neither of them knowing exactly what to do. They locked eyes and just as she was licking her lips, Dallas kissed her. It was gentle and sweet but hungry and rough at the same time. It was what she needed at that exact moment. Her eyes were closed tightly shut as she clenched onto his neck. Once they broke apart breathless, the only thing they could do was look at each other. Dallas wanted to say so much but he couldn't read her face. Her eyes were displaying so much but he wasn't sure where to start. He was about to speak when he heard, "Is this the reason you can't answer my calls now?" He looked to see Erica. Amori cleared her throat. "Erica what are you doing here?" He replied. Amori gathered up her stuff. "I'll be inside." She told him. He grabbed her hand to stop her. "It's okay. I'll wait on you inside." She assured him. He nodded. She went in and closed the door behind her after giving him one last look. "Guess that answers my question. Where's my son?" She yelled. He shook his head. "Your son? You mean the baby boy you knew wasn't mine but I still accepted full responsibility of. The son you disappeared on and left in my care. The one I have full and complete custody of after you decided to snort your love and care up your damn nose instead of being his mother. He's being taken well care of. Now I'd appreciate it if you'd just leave and left us alone like you been doing. And get help Erica. Before it's too late and my son don't have a mother to talk to once he gets older." Erica looked hurt but there was nothing she could say. "I'm coming back for my son. You can't keep him away from me Dallas." He sighed. "You think I want to? I didn't choose this. You did. You're keeping you away from him not me." He told her. "Now please. Just leave." She wiped her eyes and walked away. He sighed and ran his hands down his face. Now that this situation died for the night it was still one more he had to deal with. Just not quite sure how.
