Author's Note: An extra long update for my two readers ;) But seriously, I hope you guys enjoy it!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slipping in between a particularly amorous couple, I sit down on a stool beside the bar with a residual huff.
"You seem like you had a good day." Izzie laughs.
"I'm exhausted, is all. Everything is so exhausting."
"I wouldn't be complaining, what with a patient that worships the ground you work on."
"Yeah, well my fucing da-" I'm shoved off the seat by a vomiting drunk.
"Whiskey, ne-" Alex strolls up and orders and is abruptly splattered with bile. I jump back, choking on laughter.
"Oh my god, you're my favorite person today." My words are garbled through my stifled giggles, and I tuck a ten dollar bill into the drunk's back pocket. Alex stands there, disgust covering his face and vomit dripping off of his shirt.
"Watch what you do, you fucking imbecile." he barks. I gasp, coming in close and shoving my face in his.
"It was an accident. A funny accident, but an accident nonetheless. Apologize." My mouth hardens into an impassive line. Ever since the tenth grade, I've had a raging hatred for superiority complexes.
"Or what," he challenges, "you're going to beat me with your puny, futile hands? Or will you attack me with your ineffectual words until I'm a sobbing mess." I stand there, coming up empty. Jesus, if there's one thing I hate, it's being outsmarted. I whirl around, choosing to ignore him and pour a stinging shot down my throat. Wincing, I squeeze my eyes shut and pout my lips. Izzie sits there, enjoying my suffering. I order one more as she regales me with the latest poor soul that needs open heart surgery.
"You're performing a standstill surgery? Dr. Shepherd, please, I'll do anything. I want in." I chase after him, coat billowing behind me.
"I already have O'Malley on this case. I don't need another helping hand."
"With all due respect, sir, you're killing someone then bringing them back to life. Don't you need all the help you can get?" I plead. He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose and turning to face me.
"Fine, Sweeney. You can scrub in."
he caves exasperatedly. I clasp his hands with excitement before quickly dropping them as Izzie rounds the corner. Turning away from Dr. Shepherd, I run to Izzie.
"Iz, you'll never believe this. I get to scrub in on a standstill surgery!" I yell. Izzie raises an eyebrow, a knowing smile spreading across her face.
"You only got to scrub in because you're Meredith's friend."
"So?" my eyebrows furrow.
"Oh, Charlotte. You sweet, innocent gorgeous human. Meredith and Dr. McDreamy are having sex."
"Sex? Well, who are we to judge, right?"
"Char, I love you but you're too nice. She's so clearly favored over us and it's unfair! We've had to work for everything we get and all she has to do is spread her legs."
"Izzie!" My eyes widen with disbelief. Her gaze is steely, fixed.
"It's unfair. That's all I'm saying."
"She's your friend. Your roommate." I gently squeeze her arm. Izzie tugs away, deep in thought. Spirits lifted, I drag her with me. "I have something to show you."
