By Friday afternoon, Tia was more than ready for the weekend to begin. She had completed all of her homework and gotten the okay to spend the entire weekend at Brittany’s house since her father was out of town on business, and Janet had taken Miles to visit her mother in Berkley. Tia walked down the halls with a permanent grin on her face as she chatted with Jack about the short story they’d been reading in class.

"I can’t wait for this party tonight. Plus, it’s going to be awesome having you around all weekend," Jack said, giving a little nudge to Tia that made her face flush.

"I’m coming over for Brittany too. I can’t just ignore my friend to make out with you in your bedroom," Tia said. He’d talked to Brittany about the two of them, and after Tia assured her friend that things would not change between them, and her pledge to keep the PDA to a minimum, Brittany gave the couple her blessing.

"Now that I think of it, we should probably skip the party and just stick to making out in my room," Jack whispered into Tia’s ear. The timbre of his voice was so sexy as she felt the heat of his mouth near her ear. She felt her neck prickle with desire and she gave Jack a playful swat to allow herself to regain some of her composure.

"Lindee is spending the night too!" Brittany said referring to their friend Kalinda, as she jumped up and down with excitement. Tia knew that Brittany’s last class of the day was on the other side of the school, but somehow, she’d beaten Tia to her own locker.

"Cool! I feel like I haven’t seen her in ages," Tia said as she opened the locker. Kalinda was wickedly sarcastic and smart, she was the same age as Tia and Brittany, but most of her classes were in the grade above them as she was in an accelerated learning program.

"So, you have your suitcase or do we need to stop by your place?" asked Jack as he returned to the women after a quick stop over at his own locker.

"I just have this," Tia said lifting the leather satchel from the bottom of her locker.

"I’ll take that," Jack said grabbing the bag from her.

"What a gentleman," Brittany said sarcastically, "We’re going shopping, so the work of carrying bags is just beginning for you," Brittany joked and the three of them headed to Jack’s car, meeting up with Kalinda.

Normally, shopping wasn’t Jack’s idea of a great afternoon, but having Tia sitting next to him, discretely holding his hand and stealing kisses as she and her friends talked a mile a minute won out over his normal routine of shooting hoops with his friends while they bitch about their girl problems and trash talk.

True to her word, Tia hadn’t allowed Jack to steal all of her attention. The girls picked through the racks of clothing at the beautiful and unique boutiques in the trendy shopping district. Accustomed to the throngs of power-shopping women with their bored husbands and boyfriends, many of the shops offered comfortable chairs and even a few televisions tuned to movies and sports for the waiting men.

At one boutique, there even was a pinball machine. Jack busied himself there as Brittany convinced Tia to spend an astronomical amount on a dress that she’d spotted in the window of the vintage store. She couldn’t think of an occasion for such a formal gown, but Brittany coerced her into it, by reminding her that big important men like her father went to big charity balls all of the time.

"Try this one!" Brittany urged as she pushed a dress into her hands.

Tia opened the dressing room door after stepping into the dress and Brittany smiled at her.

"You look hot” Kalinda said to Tia when she saw her.

"Wow! Wait until I do your hair and make up. My brother’s not gonna wanna let you out of his sight," Brittany said smiling.
