One hour later I was happy with my outcome. I was wearing a purple sweater, skinny jeans, and black combat boots to top it off. Not the best look but a definite 180 from this morning. I marched downstairs ready to go.
"Ready. How we looking on time?" I asked as Jared glanced up from the text message he was sending out to look at me before focusing back on his phone.
"Uh, the movie starts at 9:15. We should get going or we'll be late." He grabbed his car keys off the shelf near the front door.
I followed behind him out the door and into his car before I remembered something important. "Hey, can you pick me up in the morning? My car's still on campus."
"Yeah, sure." He shrugged his shoulders as he backed out of my house.
"Well, I have some rules I'm going to need you to follow throughout this fake date." I didn't wait for him to respond before I continued, "You have to make it seem like you actually like me. Treat me how Jack treated Rose in Titanic."
"Are you really using movie references? I know how to act on fake dates."
Touché.
"What's stuck up yours?" I putting down my phone, not interested in scrolling anymore.
"That's not... Jessica is being a bitch. Can we get this thing over with so I can go home." He scowled at the road his eyes never even looking my way.
Jessica McCray was one of his "lovers." She actually had more of a chance being with him then the other girls but her only problem was that she was excessively clingy and in Jared's words, 'J-Dog don't do needy.'
"What happened?" I asked, wanting all the juicy details about Jessica.
"It's nothing; she just doesn't want me going to the movies with you." He made a turn into the movie theater and I looked over at the car radio clock that read 9:11 pm.
"We go to the movies together all the time," I said getting out of the car after he parked.
"She is just jealous for no reason." He mumbled, "but I'm trying to ease her mind because she's a good fuck."
I happily ignored his last statement as we walked side by side to the ticket booth. "Hold my hand," I instructed once we finally made it inside and he handed me my ticket. As always, he paid. He can be a gentleman when he wants to.
"Why they-"
"Kate?" I heard a familiar voice from behind us and as Jared and I turned around, I jerked his hand into my own in a quick motion. It seemed like he got right into character, not even flinching when I grabbed his hand.
"Oh, Halley... Hey" I greeted in an over exaggerated tone, mentally noting to bring it down a tad.
"Sup, Hal?" Jared responded. Instead of waiting for her reply, he turned to me, "I'm about to go grab some popcorn, you want anything?"
"No thanks, I'm good." I gave him a nod of approval before he left.
"You two date? I knew it was going to happen." Halley spoke giving me a cheeky grin.
Mental eye roll. I would never actually date Jared. Never going to happen. "Yeah, just testing it out... sorry we didn't tell you."
"Oh, you're all good. Sounds like we're even now." She laughs, referring to her and Ben. Keeping my calm, I just sent her a tight lipped smile. We are not "even" you crush stealing-
"It's Katherine right?" I knew that voice. Ben just said my name... No, wait... Katherine?
"Umm, it-it's just Kate... actually." I corrected, embarrassed that he got my name wrong. Maybe that kiss wasn't a big deal. It was one night and really wasn't that big of a deal.
