I stuck half my body out the window. The two suns blazed in the sky, but strangely, it didn't feel like there was twice the amount of heat.
"See?"said Jasiana smugly. "This is our world, Dreswade. and you, human, are the first of your kind to see it."
Maio answered my unasked question."It's all real, Rose."
"How did I get here?" I asked, looking around in wonder.
"Remember that mirror?" Maio paused as I nodded."Well, the short version of explaining would be to start by telling you that our worlds are connected by the mirrors. We call it the mirrorsystem. You can do three things with the mirrorsystem; The most basic thing that all mirrors can do is scrying. You can only do that from this side, on Dreswade. Any mirror in your world is like a two-way mirror to us; we can see you but you can't see us. Next thing that mirrors can do is a summoning. Say you are on earth and your bestfriend's over here. If you both have a mirror that is connected to the the mirrorsystem, then you can talk to each other. The last function of the mirror system is Transing."
"That's what I did?" I asked, trying to keep up.
"Yes. 'Trans' is short for Transplaneta, which means 'change planet' in the language of the Druids. There's only seven Transplaneta mirrors in Dreswade, one in each major city, kingdom or territory. The nice thing about Trans mirrors is that although they have counter parts in either world, you can program your destination before you Trans to any mirror of your choosing...."Maio broke off the lector, and with my head still spinning, turned around and walked into Jasiana's closet. I start to follow him before Jasiana grabs my arm.
"He'll be back,"she answered my questioning look. "He probably forgot something in there or had some idea." Letting go of me, she turned back towards the window and looked outside, ignoring me.
An awkward silence threatened to insue if i hadn't blurted out,"So how about this weather?"
Jasiana slowly turned to face me, with a slightly amused look on her face. "The weather."
"Yeah," I said, realizing something,"Where I was on Earth, you know, my home, it was freezing cold and there were freak snowstorms going on that canceled school and everything. But here," I gestured at outside,"it's like in the middle of summer!"
"Our seasons are not determined by the rotation of the planet. Instead, the four seasons each have an equal quarter of Dreswade. Had I a map, I could show you all the sections of summer, where my people dwell. As it is, I can only tell you from memory. On this continent, all four seasons are represented. You are in the Summer Forests, in the Woodland Palace. South of us,"she pointed,"are both what you considor the seasons winter and fall. And to our east are the Spring Isles."
Before I could think of anything else to ask, Maio came out of the closet with a frown on his face, like he was thinking extremely hard. Jasiana picked up on his mood as well, straightening up and giving him her full attention.
"There's no mirror," Maio said, thinking out loud.
Jasiana looked puzzled." What are you talking about?"
"For Rose to have Transed through. There wasn't a mirror in your closet."
"What does that mean?" I asked, looking between the elves.
"Then how did she even get here?"said Jasiana, giving me a suspious look, like I knew. Then her eyes brightened, like she had an idea."Wait."
"What?" I asked defensively.
"When you were babbling like an idiot, you said something...The mirror you Transed through, it was broken!"
Maio looked at me, startled. "Then the navigation in the mirrorsystem would have been wrecked, as well. You are extremely lucky you didn't end up in a wall or a hundred feet above ground! That would explain how you got in Jasi's closet."
"Apparently I'm lucky to have even got here," I said, remembering that these two had said I was the first human to have survived coming through the mirrorsystem.
"Yup, that too," Maio said with a grin. Then his face went slack, and he stared off in space, like he was remembering something. Quickly, he reached over and grabbed my left hand, the one he had nicked as he cut the ropes I had been tied up with. He turned it over palm-side up, and pointed at my index finger, where I had cut myself earlier.
"How did you get that?" He demanded.
"The cut?" I asked, a little nervous. Maio was looking at me like he was trying to suck all my secrets out. I noticed he had flecks of gold in his eyes, too, just like his sister.
"It's a fresh cut, not even an hour old," Maio said, still staring at me."And the mirror you Transed through-"
"-was broken!" Jasiana gasped, finishing Maio's sentence. She looked up at her brother, and if I didn't know better, I would say that tough Jasiana was scared.
"Um...There was a big chunk of the mirror I'd picked up, it cut me. But why is it-"
Maio interupted me before I could finish."Did your blood get on the rest of the mirror? Even a drop?"
"Yes. That's how I got here, I was trying to get my blood off the mirror and it swallowed me up..." I trailed off as Maio let go of me and grabbed his hair.
He took a deep breathe."Right. You have to go back to Earth NOW."
"How?" I asked, still trying to figure out what the big deal was about my blood on the mirror.
"Come on, human!" ordered Jasiana, grabbing my hand and running down the hall. I had to run with her or fall on my face. Maio was racing next to us.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"To our Trans mirror!" said Maio loudly over the pounding of three sets of feet running at top speed."You have to get home!"
"What's the rush?"
"It'd take to long to explain! Short version: You're in danger!"
"And endangering all of us!" Jasiana said, starting to pull my arm off.
We reached the end of the hallway, turned right and kept on sprinting. We turned a few more times before we stopped at a big door. Maio jerked it open and we rushed inside.
The room looked just like the ball room from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It even had thrones at the head of the room, the big red curtains, and ginormous windows. There was just one thing different. In the center of the room was a mirror the size of a house. The frame around the mirror was golden and decorated with what looked like real gems. Five people were rushing around the mirror, pointing strange looking remotes at it and jotting down notes. I could see why. The mirror was covered with cracks just like the movie theater's mirror.
Standing in front of the mirror in the ball room was a man taller then Maio, shoulders broad and arms thinck with muscles. He had a red velvet cloak on, and when he turned I could see his platinum blond hair, his neatly trimmed beard, and his very black eyes, flecked with gold.
Jasiana gasped at the sight of the mirror and let go of my hand. Maio stiffened, then looked at the man with a look of disbelief.
"Dad. What happened to the Trans mirror?!"
