" I'm a little nervous..."  Michael swallowed and shakily held scarlet red roses in his hand.  He pushed his black bangs back, his eyes darting left and right. He tried to stand tall, but his figure was hunched, as if he were being scolded.

I playfully punched him in the arm. " Relax, you'll be fine. I'm sure Carol will accept, so you have nothing to worry about."

He smiled. " I know, I know, I'm just terrified. Carol is a special kind of girl, and I don't want to mess it up. You know...."

  I looked away. " Yeah.....special."

He stared at me. " You alright?"

I smiled uncertainly. " Yeah, yeah, just......thinking about.....Alex! Yeah, Alex."

Michael shrugged. " Mm, okay then. You know, you really should go for it. You told me too, and I think it'd be cool if you tried it too. "

" Ha......sure....."  Ha. He had no idea. I looked around, my eyes scanning teens left and right. " Where is Carol? I thought you told her to meet you outside at lunch."

He sighed, checking his phone for the time. " I did."

" Michael!!"

And there she was. The girl of the hour. The one that caught the prince and took his heart. The one that married the man in the shop who picked up her fallen purse. The-

She ran towards us, puffing when he reached us and she could finally relax. " What's going on?" She glanced at the roses. " Mike? What's going on?"

He swallowed and pushed the roses forward. " Carol, will you be my girlfriend?"

I swear her scream of joy could be heard from a mile away, no kidding.

" I just, just, omg!!" Carol gushed as she hugged her roses tightly to her chest. " What a sweetheart! MY Sweetheart! OH! I just can't believe it. Can you believe it Em, because I can't."

I smiled at her. " Nope, and you totally deserve it. Michael's such a sweet guy. You will not believe how nervous he was giving you those roses and asking you out, believe me on that one."

She grinned. " I know, I know, it's just...wow!" She collapsed onto a bench and sat there like the happy fool she was. Truly I was happy for her. And yet truly, I was jealous. IN WHICH SUCKED.

I suddenly felt very angry. Why did things have to be this way? Why did I have to agree to become friends with these people? WHY? Was it to just watch me suffer in pain? Pain because know matter how hard I tried, I will never get anything I want? Even if I may truly deserve it?

I look up, and Carol is staring at me , wide-eyed. " Are you okay?" she asked.

I glanced away. " Yeah, I'm fine." My voice dripped with hatred. " I have to go. Bye."  I swung around, and rushed out.
