" So, how're you and Michael?" Carol nudged me playfully. It had been two weeks since he and I had talked of my mother, but in all honestly it felt like it was only yesterday.  I had grown closer to him and his friends. It was like a new flower was blooming.

I shoved her gently as I opened my locker. It was lunch time, so it's not like we were in a big rush. " Why would you want to know?" I questioned calmly.

She stared at me in astonishment. " You are kidding, right? Don't you dare tell me that Jake, Alex, and I are the only ones to see it?"

" See what?" Now I was perplexed. Whatever was she talking about? Michael and I are fine. Is it a problem? " We're not fighting, if that is what you think-" I began.

She cuts me off. " Oh my goodness, you two are the biggest idiots in the world! You two LIKE each other!!"

I stepped back from her, startled. " You......You can't be serious. That's.....Well, that's ridiculous. Never would I ever think of him in that way."

Carol stood in amazement. " Oh come on. You really must be joking. You two were, like, made for each other. It's so perfect it's insane. Don't you even stand there another second and tell me wrong. You guys are obviously blind."

I shut my locker. " No, you're just wrong."

Back in the lunch room, where Jake, Alex, and Michael are having the same conversation......

Michael folded his arms. " No way. Uh uh. You really can't be serious."

Jake drummed his fingers on the table. " Yes we're serious. You have the hots for Emery."

Alex nodded. " It is kind of obvious."

Michael sat up, shaking his head. " Look, as much as I like Emery and all, she would never date me in a million years. There's just no way, no how. Nope." He sipped his water.

Jake hit his hands on the table now. " Oh my gosh, dude. You are the biggest dork in the world. She must like you! Have you seen the way she even looks at you?"

" With her eyes?" Michael replied sarcastically. Alex cackled while Jake smacked him in the arm. " No idiot. Her eyes, like, they brighten. It's as if the moon has disappeared and bam! Here comes the sun, shining and all that, making the world look beautiful. That's the exact reaction between you and when she notices you."

Michael shrugged. " I don't know, it just........it doesn't seem like it's true......It just sounds like some stupid love story that only happens in fairy tales."

Alex put his elbows on the table and rested his chin on his hands. " You want to know why those things happen in fairy tales? Because the characters work at it. Belle didn't just show up randomly with out a reason at the Beast's castle. She needed to get her father back. She sacrificed herself for him. And you know what? The Beast secretly liked her from the beginning, otherwise he wouldn't have invited her to dinner, and given her such a nice, comfortable bed. They worked together, played together, and you know where that got them? Into love. Because the worked at it. It's called Fate."

Michael stood and brushed himself off. " Whatever you guys. I'm going to my locker."

Just as he made it to the doors, a curly headed figured bumped into him. Shocked, Michael looked down to see Emery. He grinned at her. " Hey, what's up."

She ducked her head. " Gotta get lunch, " she mumbled as she pushed passed him.  Carol ran in a few seconds later. " What's up with her?" Michael asked, pointing at Emery.

Carol shrugged. " Maybe she's just a little, well, overwhelmed."
