I shoved passed the gathering crowd outside. " Alex!" I cried.

" Emery!" He appeared in my sight, drenched in sweat, tears...

  and blood.

My heart raced. " Are you okay?" I asked, turning into a mother hen. " I mean, oh my gosh, you scared us. Michael and I-"

Michael came out of nowhere. I hadn't waited for him at the restaurant. I had been to worried. His black hair spilled over his shoulders, his face a mask of concern. " We were worried something had happened to you."

Alex shrugged. " Well... Its sort of a long story." He straightened up. " But right now, I can't worry about that. I need to see if Nathan is alright."

" Nathan!?" Michael and I exclaimed.

Jake and Carol ran over. " Oh my gosh Alex!" Carol exclaimed. " What the frick happened?"

Jake had a hand on his heart. " Did you...Alex did you murder Nathan?"

 Alex gasped. " What?? No-I..."

A man dressed in a police officer stood up from a bloody body that lay in front of a truck and began to come towards us. He had a buzz cut, but you could clearly see that his hair was a dirty blond. He had dark brown eyes that were full of seriousness as he looked to Alex. " Son, is Alex your name?"

  Alex swallowed. " Yes sir."

" Would you care to explain to me what happened tonight?" He glanced at Michael and I. " You kids go on, I need to speak with Alex alone."

I was about to protest, when Alex spoke up. " Sir, with all do respect, it would be better if they stayed. They don't know what happened, and frankly, to be honest, they deserve to know. I won't hide anything, I promise. I'll even swear on the bible. But please let them stay."

The officer rubbed his face and sighed. " Fine, fine. But please tell me everything you remember. My name's Officer Robertson by the way."

I placed a hand to my mouth, shocked. " So Nathan wanted you all along?" We were sitting on the grass, after pleading with the officer, who now sat with us.

Alex tugged at some weeds and shrugged. " I don't think so. But I do believe that maybe he did begin to like me, I'm not sure."

Officer Robertson scratched at him chin. " Are you certain that's all? Is there anything else? I mean, for a kid his age, this story seems like he's a bit messed up. Do you know anything about him family?"

" No sir," we answered in unison.

He pulled himself up and nodded at us. " Well...let me know if you guys can think of anything else. Thank you for your time. Alex, I want to-"

  " Where am I?"

We all jumped at the same time and looked around to find who had said that. " What-" I began.

The voice moaned in agony. " I'm hurting. What's going on?"

We all stood and started to search. It didn't take us long, because as Alex was walking past Nathan, Nathan grabbed for him and whispered. " Please...tell me where I am?" He sounded pitiful, in need of help. Carol gripped my arm and I held Michael's hand. He squeezed it hard.

Alex knelt down. " Uh...what's wrong?" I couldn't blame Alex for being a little awkward. Nathan had never been particularly nice to anyone, but now he was literally begging for help.

" Son, get out of the way," said a young lady with a doctor's mask on her mouth. She went past Alex and started to lift Nathan up onto the rolling bed.

" NO!" Nathan screamed. " Let me go! Who are you? Why isn't anyone answering my questions? Ow!" He whimpered. " It hurts so much."

The woman's blonde hair brushed her shoulders as she finally managed to lift Nathan onto the bed and get him in the ambulance. Nathan nabbed Alex's hand. " Please come with me..." He begged. " I'm scared."

  " I...I don't think I can..." Alex began.

The lady with the mask stared at Nathan fiercely. " Usually I wouldn't want anyone else in the ambulance with a patient. But hon, I'm going to have to ask you to come with us. Only because without you, he won't cooperate."

" But my parents-" Alex protested.

" Will be notified as soon as possible. Just give me there number when we get to the hospital." She snapped her fingers and pointed toward the truck. " Please get in."

Alex looked back at us, his face twisted with confusion, hurt...anger... " I'll be back," he said before finally climbing into the ambulance.

The doors shut, they left, and I sobbed into Michael's arms.
