Chapter 12, Back on Track

The bright light shined in the room with significance giving the room a bright orange-yellow glow. Scalinea slowly opened her eyes with the defiance of the light stabbing at her. She slowly sat up, her head was still throbbing from when she had last collapsed. She pulled her phone out from under her pillow and checked the time and date.

     Saturday, February 8,  12:48p.m.

     At least she hadn't missed school of had been out for more than a night. She sighed and fell back on her bed. 'Why did she always get herself in these situations?'

     "You up Scalinea?" Dasha said peeking into the room.

     "Ya." Scalinea replied sitting up again.

     "I'm so glad you're okay!"

     "There's nothing to worry about." Scalinea giggled. The small girl had always made her smile.

     "Luna and I are gonna go on a picnic. You're welcome to join if you're up to it."

     "Sounds fun!"

     As Scalinea opened her locker the following Monday she found the small red haired girl sitting inside.

     "What are you doing in my locker Dasha?"

     "Nothing..."

     Scalinea sighed. "Just give me my notebook."

     Dasha handed Scalinea her notebook and just right before Scalinea closed the locker door a taco was flung straight in her face and the locker door was slammed shut. Scalinea could hear Dasha giggling inside.

     "You really are crazy Dasha." Scalinea laughed. She picked up her notebook that she had dropped and went to the bathroom to wash her face.

     After the bell rang for lunch, as Scalinea was leaving the classroom she saw Dasha hopping up and down with Luna standing next to her.

     "Hey, guys." Scalinea had a smile on her face thanks to her friend's presence. "How are your days going?"

     "Good, what about you?" Luna said.

     "Great! Well... Besides the fact that this morning I was hit in the face with a taco." Scalinea laughed as they walked to the cafeteria.

     "Dasha..." Luna said scolding the small girl.

     "I did nothing." Dasha replied making Scalinea and Luna laugh.

     As the girls entered the cafeteria, they got some food and sat down with the boys who were already there.

     "How does everyone get here before me?" Scalinea laughed. As Scalinea sat down she sensed something off... An extra presence watching them.

     "I'll be right back." Scalinea said and she started out of the room.

     "Wait for me!" Dasha called after Scalinea, stumbling out of her chair and following the tall meifwa.

     When the girls stepped out of the back door of the school to the left of them in the bushes sat a girl with long puffy pink hair that was pulled up into pigtails. She was peering into the school through the cafeteria window.

     "What are you doing?" Scalinea asked the girl who fell back into the bushes by surprise.

     "How did you know she was here?" Dasha asked Scalinea in a whisper.

     "Magic." Scalinea didn't need to say another word for Dasha to understand.

     "I never noticed that you two had walked out here." The puffy haired girl said now sitting up. She had a more high pitched voice almost like she was still a little girl. "My name is Cotton. Like cotton candy!"

     "Your hair looks like cotton candy too!" Dasha said somehow now behind Cotton.

     "It is cotton candy!" Cotton said with a smile on her face then Dasha started gnawing on her hair.

     Scalinea laughed. 'Wow Dasha, just wow...' She thought shaking her head.
