Paige's POV

I walked along the cracked, gray sidewalk bored out of my mind. There's nothing to do here. I looked around and saw the park across the street. I crossed and walked around the park for a while. I started to get cold, so I crossed my arms and rubbed my hands together. It stung from the cuts I had gotten the day before, but at least I was warm.

Yesterday, I was walking around the city getting to know the place when I noticed a red car following me. I thought nothing of it until four guys got out and started beating me up. They pulled out a knife on me and I tried to grab the end of it being the genius I am. They eventually left when some guys came running up. I didn't know them so I ran away. I spent the night at this park. I liked the park, it reminded me of home.

I looked around and saw a football field to my left. Then, something blue caught my eye. I ran over and picked it up. It was a jean jacket, just what I needed! I couldn't really afford much right now so free things like this were a luxury. It was a little big, but it was warm so that didn't matter. I must've lost a lot of weight. I looked back to the football field which was even closer now. As I looked across the field I saw a group of guys huddled around something. I decided to check out what was going on so I walked closer, careful not to be out in the open. The closer I got to the huddle, the more and more my curiosity grew. The next thing I knew, I was walking straight towards it. There looked like there was a body in the middle of it. The group of boys all got quiet. I crept up right behind one of the boys, he looked my age no older than 15 or 16. One of them yelled so loudly and suddenly it caught me off guard and caused me to fall back into the grass with a thud. All of the boys' heads snapped around and looked at me. I quickly got up and started to run. These were the same boys that came after the people from the car beat me up. I ran as fast as I could, but I was soon tackled and flipped onto my back. I stared up at the boy above me. He had mean, hard eyes and short brown hair. He pulled a knife out of his pocket and held it to my throat. "Did you do this to Johnny?" he growled. I was so scared but tried not to show it. I didn't even know who Johnny was. "No," I said in the tiniest whisper. He pressed the knife closer to my neck. I felt a hot sticky liquid run down my neck. By this time, the rest of the boys had gathered around, except for the one that was hurt and one other boy. The boy on top of me raised his free hand in a fist. I braced for impact. I already knew this was gonna hurt. "Hey, leave her alone, Dal." I heard a soft voice say. I tried to look up for the source of the voice, but it wasn't quick enough. I felt pain in my head and blackness took over my vision.

Johnny's POV

I woke up from a dreaded and frightening night terror. I frantically looked around the room and thankfully I found myself on the couch of Pony's living room. As I was lying down I felt a body next to me. I shifted my eyes to the side and saw a girl not much younger than me. Her long brown hair framed her tan face perfectly and it cascaded down the side of her neck. My eyes drifted to the jacket she was wearing...wait that was my  jacket. This jacket was my prized possession. It kept me warm during the night when I slept at the vacant lot. It was from Pony. My blood boiled at the thought of this girl stealing my jacket. My anger took control and I slapped her. She jolted upwards and I yelled, "Why'd you steal my jacket!". She look so frightened.

I then realized, I hit a girl. I promised myself I would never become like my abusive parents.

I snapped out of my daze and replied quickly, "Dammit! I'm so sorry." She just stared at me. As I was about to say something she bolted out of the house. With my jacket...again.
