Johnny's POV
Ponyboy has been really distant lately so I spend most of my time with Paige. We agreed to hang out tonight and I was going to ask him about it. We're going to Dairy Queen, the barbecue chick burger are our favorite.

We decided to go earlier than we planned. "Why are you being so distant, Pony?" He stares at me contemplating whether he should answer or not. "You've been busy what that Paige girl," his words laced with envy, "We're best buds Johnny, I don't want her getting in the way. I barley see you anymore." His words hurt and I had this weird feeling in my stomach. "Your always busy Pony."
"I'm always busy 'cause I know you'd rather be with her." he say nonchalantly. "Pony you know your my best friend," my eyes sympathetic. "I know. It just hasn't been the same since Paige came along." he states. "How bout I cancel with her tomorrow, then we can hang, just like old times."
"Johnny you don't have to do that we can hang some other time. Don't let me ruin your plans." he said with a hint of guilt. "I don't mind and I'm sure she'll understand," I smiled "plus, we can see that new Paul Newman movie, he's your favorite." Pony gave me a to toothy grin and replied "Let's do it."

The next day we went out to the movies. I had Pony get some same at while I got food. I bought a large tub of popcorn and a Pepsi for Pony. That boy is a Pepsi addict. Pony and I always go to the movies but we usually only have money for food so we sneak in. I looked over at Pony and at the same time he looked at me. These moments always gave me butterflies and I saw a faint blush spread across Pony's cheeks.

After we left the movie we went to Pony's house and the gang was there. Two-Bit eating cake and watching Mickey Mouse, Steve shirtless as always, Soda jumping on people, Darry making more cake, and Dally smoking. This was a routine for us. Darry pulled out a chocolate cake from the oven and Pony and I instantly ran over, bumping into Steve and Soda.
We devoured that cake within five minutes.
