Johnny's POV
After my mystery girl left, with my jacket, I had to convince the boys to let me go after her. They knew how much that jacket meant to me. I had finally convinced all of the boys except for Dally but nothing a box of cigarettes couldn't fix. I know I'm too young to be smoking but it calms my nerves. Everyone in my neighborhood did it, even the girls but they were tuff.

I was still sore and bruised from when I was jumped, maybe that was why Dally didn't want me to go. No, Dallas Winston didn't care for anyone. At least that's was what Pony said. I walking in the direction of the park. She seemed like the kind of girl who liked the outdoors. I personally liked the outdoors too; I liked anything that could get me away from my parents.

I reached the park and looked around. I found her seated on the monkey bars staring into space. She was beautiful. Her eyes were unreal, the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. Darry has blue eyes but his aren't like hers, his were pale and cold. There were specks of green and gold in some angles. She didn't seem to notice me when I looked up o her. "A penny for your thoughts?" I said and she snapped out of her gaze. She looked at me with a mean look and I said "I'm sorry I slapped you... it's just the jacket means a lot to me and my anger took over." She looked at me with her big blue eyes and said "It's alright, I guess..." I smiled and she smiled back.

I studied her face and noticed a scar and dried blood on her neck. "Where'd you get that scar?" She looked down and said "Your mean looking friend pinned me down. Thought I jumped ya." she paused, "You aren't like your friends are you?" It's like she understands me. "Nope." I said popping the 'p'. "Hey, you got name, mines Johnny Cade." she smiled and said "Paige. Paige Abelson."
