To say that Ruby never would have thought that she would end up in a situation such as this would be an understatement; Maybe death would be a preferred alternative to have to go with Negan, to have to be a prisoner of his. Of course, she knew that Negan had no idea just who he was getting involved with and Ruby would not take any of this sitting. She would rain Hell down on him and everything precious to him.
"Ruby, Ruby, Ruby..." Negan tested the name out on his tongue like he was at a wine tasting, and couldn't get enough. "What a fitting name for a gem like you." He smirked at her before turning back to the remaining group members of The Compound.
Ruby had silently watched as Negan gave her old "group" the rundown of how everyone would be working for him now. All of their shit would be Negan's and they did not have a choice in matter. It was an almost fascinating thing to watch how he had crushed the life out of all of them without even lifting a finger. He was a man with some serious power and Ruby found herself wondering what he was like before the world went to Hell.
"You have one week before my boys and I here come a-knockin'." Negan whistled and made a gesture for his men to start rounding up their things and to load back onto the trucks. He stopped short when his attention turned back to the woman standing before him, glaring. If it were not for the guns aimed at her chest, she would have fled into woods, becoming nothing more than a distant dream to him. But, that was not the case; she was still standing there, more real than anything a dream could conjure up.
"Today is your lucky day, Ruby." Negan began to circle her, slowly. "Your mine now and there is not a damn thing you can do about it."
Ruby's nostrils flared at his confident and boastful words, her voice cold and firm as she bit out. "I belong to no one but myself. Especially not you."
Negan clicked his tongue. "Listen here- I could have bashed your beautiful head just like that sucker right there for killing two of men sweet-cheeks, but being the generous man that I am, I have decided to spare your life. A thanks would be in order."
Ruby cackled at the arrogance of his words, rolling her icy eyes. "Thank you very much your highness, for making me your prisoner- I truly appreciate your hospitality." And just to piss him off even more, she mockingly bowed to Negan. Ruby did not care that she was playing a dangerous game with an even more dangerous man- she was just as lethal herself and would not stand for anything.
Under normal circumstances, Negan would not have taken that sort of lip from anyone else, but there was something about the woman that drove him mad and made him question what he would ever do without her in his life now. There was no way he was going to let the beautiful woman with long creamy legs, rosy lips, and an attitude as sharp as a blade out of his sight. Only a fool would do such a thing and Negan was no damn fool.
Negan stepped right up to Ruby, invading any sense of personal space she previously had and brought his face down to her own. "You are mine now. Your whole damn life is mine now." Negan studied her face, waiting for an ounce of fear to appear on her features and yet there was nothing expect white hot rage. It practically oozed off of her, threatening to drown him right then and there.
It took a whole lot of self control for Ruby to not claw his face off, with him being so close. Too close. The leather scent of his jacket filled her nose as she stared into chestnut eyes, into his soul. He was a man who toyed with death and Ruby could not help but find him alluring, even if she did want to kill him.
"Dwight- check her. There's no damn way this girl hasn't got some trick up her sleeves." His breath tickled her against her lips and she swallowed slowly, more aware than ever of how close the two were to each other. He stepped back finally, allowing Ruby to think a little more clearly.
And of course he was right. Ruby did have a trick up her sleeve; quite a few shiny little tricks actually. Being armed to the teeth certainly had never been an disadvantage to the woman.
A man who had half of his face burnt, whom Ruby figured was Dwight, came forward to start checking her for weapons. The gruesome scars had instantly reminded Ruby of a character from a horror movie she used to watch as a child. "Come any closer Krueger, and you and I will have some serious problems."
Negan hollered out as Dwight's face turned to an icy wall of rage. "A sense of humor too! Damn me straight to Hell."
Ruby planned on it too, but for now, she really did not have much of a choice but to go along with Negan unless she wanted a bullet through her heart or worse, a crushed skull. She began pulling out her hidden knives and daggers that she had, laying them out carefully before her feet in the dirt.
Negan perked his eyebrows hollering once more. "Seems we got ourselves a little assassin here, folks."
Ruby would be a tough a nut to crack, but Negan wasn't particularly interested in breaking down the thrill that drew him to her.
"See just how smooth things can go if you cooperate?" Negan spoke as if it were the most obvious thing.
Ruby shrugged, pretending to pick at some non-existent dirt beneath her finger nails- Anything but to seem interested in what her captor had to say. "I wouldn't really call it 'cooperation' with all these guns pointed at me, but rather a life or death situation here."
Negan snarled bringing himself close to her once again, with a grip on her jaw. She hissed as he forced her to look up at him. "That pretty mouth of yours gem is sure gonna get you in a lot of trouble." He still held her jaw in his grip, the vague threat of his words sinking into Ruby. She truly was in a bad situation here, and the light at the end of the tunnel was not looking so bright.
He finally let go of her jaw as she rubbed it with her slender fingers, a scowl fixed on her ethereal face. Negan ever so lighty tapped Ruby on the back with Lucille, jutting her forward. "To the RV gem."
Begrudgingly, Ruby opened the door to the RV where Negan led her to the passenger seat up front while he took the drivers seat. He put the keys in the ignition, the RV roaring to life. Ruby looked back into the vehicle wondering if anyone one else was with them for the ride.
Negan smirked as he began to drive away from The Compound, his gravelly voice filling the quiet air. "Just us kiddo."
Ruby nodded ever so slightly, unsure of how she felt riding alone with the Devil himself. Exhaustion took its toll on Ruby as she leaned against the window, but her nerves were too on edge for her to even consider sleeping with him next to her. There was no telling what he would do. So she stared out the window. She watched the rising sun, the whorl of oranges and reds that eddied together in the cloudless Georgia sky. It was a very beautiful sight for a very ugly day.
