Every muscle in her body tensed, ready to spring into action. Her eyes darted around the empty, dark room, looking for any escape route, if they decided to attack. There was a door at the other end of the room, but she would never be able to get to it in time.
She stiffened as she heard a soft thumping sound, the sound of movement. She squinted in the darkness, a faint outline coming into focus. She took a few steps back and crouched in the corner, just in case they were able to see in the dark.
She tilted her head as she heard the clicking of claws on the hard cement, trying to guess how big the animal was, or if it even was an animal. The clicking stopped just a few feet away from her.
She scrunched her noise as she breathed in a sharp, rotting odour. She wanted to gag on the smell of rotting meat, but she couldn't, if she did, they would surely find her.
There was a sound like rusty nails being scraped together, and then silence. Complete and utter silence. She strained her eyes, but the outline was gone. She was safe, at least for the time being.
