I Care More

I care more about others
Than I do myself.
I've always been that way.

I've been tossed aside
For as long as I can remember.
Treated like I don't matter.

So I came to the conclusion
That I don't matter.
But, everyone else does.

So I go out of my way
To make sure everyone is okay.
Especially when I am not.

And I don't care
If you have hurt me.
I will help you.

I'd give away the shirt
Off my back.
All you have to do is ask.

I care more about the people
Who are struggling to make it through
Than about my own struggles.

I care more for the lady
Who sits at McDonald's
And asks for food.

I care more for the old man
Who walks his old dog
On the same path everyday.

I care more for the kids
Who plays basketball
With my old hoop.

I care more for the refugees
Who just want a fresh start
But can't find it here.

I care more for the people of colour
Who are judged by their skin
Before their character.

I care more for my brothers and sisters
Who do don't share blood with me,
But, instead, a heart.

I care more for fictional characters
And the struggles that
They must over come.

I care more for the people
Who have no one else
To care for them.

I care more about everyone
And everything
Than I do myself.

To be fair,
That isn't hard to do.
About myself,
I do not care at all.
