I sigh slinging my navy blue duffel bag over my shoulder. My back bends back in from the weight of it. "Jesus Christ." I mutter, straightening up again.
I quickly shove my phone in my pocket and push open the fly screen door. I take my time walking down the brick driveway to the car. Once I'm at the white ford falcon, I open the passenger door and jump in.
I pull my ear phones out of my jean pockets and plug them into my retro IPhone 4s. I play my music starting off with 'Thunder' by 'Imagine Dragons'. My mum and brother pile into the car and turn on the radio.
As we head off down the road the city and trees turn into a mere blur. We pass: city and ocean, bush and farms. I rest my head against the window of the car and gently close my eyes.
As I slowly fall asleep the car makes a sharp turn and my head jolts hardly against the headrest. My eyes open widely and I groan in pain. That probably just killed 100 brain cells. I was dumb enough without having my brain die.
"Stupid P platters" I hear my mum mumble. I hum in agreement and turn to look out the window. Soon enough I arrive at my grandparents house.
I stretch my mouth into a nearly over enthusiastic smile. Honestly, I love my grandparents to pieces, but I just want to go to sleep already. After all in my logic you can never have enough sleep so I need my sleep if I want to be more than a zombie tomorrow.
I jump out of my parents white ford falcon and sling my heavy duffle bag over my shoulder. This time though I braced myself for the pain so I was able to resist screaming out 'Jesus Christ' unlike last time. I go to the boot of the car and grab my backpack and my bag for my shoes. Yes, I am only here for a week and yes, I did over pack but sue me, I swear everyone overpacks when they go on holidays. And anyway, I'm not as bad as my mum! Great now I'm rambling on. Ugh.
I smile wholeheartedly as I see my small grandma appear from behind her front gate. I ask my mum if she needs any help carrying things, but it's not like I had any free hands. So, let's just say I'm grateful she said 'no'. We didn't actually bring much down with us other then some luggage and all that sort of things. My dad is coming down the next day with most of our bags and equipment with him.
The reason he couldn't come down today with my mum, brother and I was because it was Friday of the school holidays but because my dad isn't a teacher or student, he doesn't get them off. So he is coming down tomorrow and leaving a day before us so that he is only taking 5 days off work.
Once I reach my grandma I envelope her in as best a hug I can, with all the bags hanging from my shoulders and arms.
"Hey grandma, long time no see!" I tell her as I release myself from the death grip hug. I was almost tempted to rest my head on top of her head but resisted the urge. I am over a head taller than my grandma but my grandpa still towers over me.
Speaking of my grandpa, shortly after I inform my grandma about my year, he comes out of the house and greets me warmly. After our little catch up he shows me to which guest room I will be staying in.
Once I drop my luggage on my bed and walk around my bed, I go and great the cousins. Starting with my cousin who is only a year younger then me, I smile and make some small talk "Hey Bria, how's life been treating you?"
"Same old same old." She chuckles.
