The next day has arrived, and it's time for the second testing once again. Everyone had their test done without problem except for Syn. Here is the second time she will be trying this fear test, and she knows it won't work, but everyone else doesn't.
Before the testing began, Brittani and Syn were standing outside of the rooms just talking about their personal lives to each other.
"So do you think something might happen between you?" Syn asked her friend with a excited grin on her face. "I totally ship that." Brittani was known for her rosy red cheeks when Eric was around or even mentioned. "I don't know, I hope so. He is easy on me when it comes to our testing. The first test I got so scared but he pulled me out of it and helped me calm down since I was crying." She smiled just at the thought of seeing him again. "I wonder what it's going to be like today. I'm scared of going into that dream again, but I'm happy to be able to see him" she just sweetly giggled and smiled from ear to ear. Brittani really had feeling for Eric, even though he was a complete jerk to everyone, he had a soft spot for her. "You should make a move" Syn said nudging her elbow against Brittani's arm. "What? I can't do that! He might kick me out!" Brittani seemed nervous and covered her mouth with her hands. "Well, then just give him hints" Syn winked at her friend. Brittani only rolled her eyes and shook her with a smile. She loved Syn's enthusiasm. "Speaking of the devil" Syn slightly whispered so only Brittani could hear.
"Are you ready for your test today, Brittani?" Eric walked up to the girls, standing closely to Brittani. "I'm a little nervous. I don't like dealing with fear" she spoke honestly, pushing her blonde hair behind her ear. "Don't worry, you'll get better. I'll help you" Eric smiled. "Let's get started." He lead Brittani into the testing room and shut the door behind them. Brittani sat in the recliner chair and took a deep breath. Was her dream going to be the same fear or change this time? She didn't know. Eric prepared the test and walked over to Brittani. "Don't worry. You'll be able to get over this fear" Eric said as he shot the test into her neck, and in just a few seconds Brittani fell asleep and she controlling her dream.
After her dream, she woke up with a pounding in her chest. She was scared and relieved at the same time. She didn't like being stuck in that terrible cycle. It was almost liking a memory to her, or a terrible nightmare. "You alright?" Eric asked her over at the monitor. "You did better this time. You were able to move through it." Brittani rubbed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I'm okay. It just feels like I'm reliving the past." Brittani couldn't admit that her fear was something she had already gone through, and she didn't want something similar to happen to her again. Eric walked over to her and stood beside her, studying her face and the emotions she expressed. "That's what this test is for, Brittani. You're going to overcome something that has been holding onto your for many years. Don't tell anyone this. This will stay between us. But I'm going to help you. I don't want to see you lose something you're fighting so hard for." Eric admitted to her, and for the first time, he actually shared a smile with Brittani. And for the first time since she moved to Dauntless, Brittani felt strong.
*** In the other room, Syn and Four were alone again trying to test Syn and her fears. "Maybe I don't have any fears" she said to Four as she waited again for a test that wasn't going to work on her. "I don't think that's it. Everyone has something to hide" Four talked back to her, looking over at Syn lying comfortably in the recliner chair. Four was right, everyone does have something to hide, but in Syn's DNA, nobody could see what it was. "You're not going to report this are you? I don't want them to think I belong in the..." Syn almost forgot what it was called but it came to her, "factionless!" Four only shook his head. He was quite confused, but he actually wanted to help this girl. "You've made it this far. Maybe it's just a glitch" he looked over at her with hopeful eyes. "Maybe we can work on this together." Syn stood up from her chair and walked over to Four. "You're going to help me?" She asked, mostly shocked by someone actually offering something for her. "Yes I am. Just don't mention this to anyone" Four looked down at her, amazed by her beauty in front of him. "Got it? No one can know. As far as anyone else is concerned. You are progressing very well." Syn just nodded her head and locked eyes with Four. She was quite thankfully that he was going to help her through, but she couldn't mention the truth on why nothing works on her.
It was a long day for Brittani and Syn, but somehow they both manage to climb their way up on the leaderboards. They were walking back to their beds, and they were laughing and talking about how their day went, because they know they can trust each other. But as they were walking back, things were getting pretty quite and the dark hallways gave off a creepy vibe. But things turned for the worst when their mouths got covered and they were separated and dragged away into a place unknown.
Brittani was taken into an empty room and thrown to the ground. "1 down. 1 to go" the masked man said. He looked as if he was about to do something bad, and Brittani became scared out of her mind. "STOP" She screamed as the dragged her to the swinging bridge that had a deep abyss underneath. She struggled to get free, but the two larger boys kept getting her closer to the edge. "What the HELL do you think you boys are doing??" The voice sounded angry and he punched one in the face and pushed the other off of Brittani. They stumbled back and Eric's face finally showed in the dim light. Brittani about fell to her death but Eric pulled her in his arms and held her protectively. Brittani was scared out of her mind, and all she could do was hold onto Eric for dear life. "Show yourselves. NOW" he demanded as he stepped away from the edge. The boys removed their masks, and their stood one of Brittani's close guy friends. She was broken when she saw him. She thought he was her friend, but here he stood trying to kill her. "Get the hell away from here. I'll deal with you later" he growled at the boys and they quickly ran away. "You're not staying in your regular bed tonight" Eric looked down at Brittani with worried eyes. "Where am I going to go?" Her voiced cracked and tears escaped her face. "With me."
*** Meanwhile, Syn was being dragged to another part of Dauntless. She threw her arms and kicked and fought against the men, but there were two many of them that they over powered her. "You're so dead" Syn started laughing hysterically. But the men didn't budge. They took her to another bridge with an edge very similar to where Brittani was taken. "We aren't, sweetheart" one said, and the voice sounded too familiar to Syn that it only made her angrier. "Don't waste my time taking me to some dark ally!" Syn yelled and managed to push one of the men off of her. "I recommend some help, because you really ruined my good day!" The boys just shook their heads and pulled her over the edge. Syn managed to get out of grip and fall to the wall to keep her self from falling over. "Something tells me this isn't going to end well" Syn kept talking, but the boys stayed quote while they tried grabbing her legs and pulling her to the edge. "Hey boys! I'm not about to die! Let go of me" she struggled against their grip, but the three of them were stronger than her. But an angel from above must have come down to save her, because suddenly another man showed up and pulled the boys away from her. "WHOA WHOA WHOA" Four voice flooded the room and finally Syn was left alone, just inches for the edge. "What they hell are you guys thinking?" He yelled at them as he stood in front of Syn to keep her away from the mean men. Syn pulled herself off the ground, keeping her balance from falling. "Who the hell am I going to brawl this time" Syn darted towards the boys, managing to get their masks off and revealing their identity. Aiden, and even a friend of hers. "Oh, you son of a bitch" as Syn was about to lung for him, Four grabbed her waist and pulled her against his body. "Get the hell out of here" he barked at the boys, leaving them to run off. "Syn, I know you probably want to kill them, but it's best for you and them to stay away, especially tonight." He looked down at her, holding her in place. "They tried to kill me! Even my so called friend tried to throw me off a cliff!" Syn nagged. She wasn't happy. And a part of her was quite freaked, considering this wasn't the first time someone has tried to kill her. "Let's go. You're coming to stay with me" Four said as he began leading her to an unknown part of Dauntless. "Wait, what?"
