Golden ~ Zayn
"Did your mom come visit again?" Azalea smirked slightly and Zayn's eyes narrowed.
"No." Zayn playfully glared causing Azalea to chuckle.
"Why do you look like Ken Doll then?" Azalea giggled.
"Javaad absolutely hated that disgusting color. It made his head look like a soccer field. So we went blonde." Zayn explained. "I think it looks pretty sick, what do ya think?
To be honest, Azalea loved the new hair. It made him look so good. It actually made her fluster cause Zayn made her all mushy inside and she couldn't stop staring.
"I like it." She decided to simply state. She was becoming a nervous mess.
"Have you ever dyed your hair?" He asked.
"No, the boldest thing I've done is use mascara and eyeliner for Dominic's graduation." She responded blushing slightly. She was embarrassed to tell him that, cause she wasn't fun and sexy like other girls.
Zayn observed her closely. He didn't know why she was saying it like it was a bad thing. He loved that she didn't wear makeup. She was beautiful with or without it.
"That's okay. I'm sure you looked just as beautiful with that as you did without it." He smiled.
Azalea didn't believe him. She knew she wasn't beautiful, but his comment made her butterflies fly nonetheless. Zayn noticed. He noticed the denial in her eyes. He wanted to change that so bad.
"Is Dominic in college?" He asked.
"Yeah, he's studying bio technical engineering."
Zayn's eyes widened at the huge words. "Wait, what? What's that?
"Basically it's a career that tries to figure out how to turn us into cyborgs and RoboCops." She said making Zayn laugh. "Just kidding."
"I was terrified for a second there." Zayn held a hand to his chest and Azalea chuckled.
"It's got a lot of chemistry and biology and all that stuff in it. He really likes it though. He's really smart." She said.
"I bet. Sounds really hard."
"It is. His best friend dropped out the first semester."
"Wow. "
"I know right." Azalea swayed her legs in the near freezing water. Winter was really starting to kick in.
"Have you thought about going to college?"
Azalea sighed. "I wouldn't make it."
"Why not?" Zayn's eyebrows furrowed.
"I'm a mess. I can't get my emotions together in order to deal with college. I see how Dominic stresses out and gets frustrated sometimes. I really don't wanna be like that and I don't want to add more to his plate either."
Zayn noticed several things in her words. Love. Love for her brother and how she wanted to make things easier for him and help him out. Hate. Hate towards herself and how she felt so incapable and useless. Worry. Worry college would burden her and in effect make her burden her brother.
"Oh, I get it. But, you just gotta believe in yourself, ya know? I'm sure you can do it if you set your mind to it." He looked at her.
Zayn Malik's words always made Azalea think. The more she talked to him, the deeper his words sunk into her soul. As simple as they were. However, she had a really hard time truly believing him and convincing herself of what he would say. The hate towards herself was like weed clinging strongly onto the walls of her ribcage, crushing her heart and making sure it could never blossom.
"I guess." She shrugged.
Zayn noticed her hesitation and the least of the things he wanted was to see her sad.
"I believe in you, Azalea." He breathed out.
"I wish I could." She said.
