Oprah Winfrey is easily the most powerful women in America - from her own TV Shows to her own TV network (OWN Network) and her own magazines (O, The Oprah Magazine). In the words of Oprah herself: "Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment"

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29th, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to parents Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey. It's easy to say that Oprah definitely didn't have the best childhood, from moving to place to place to not having a stable parent in her life. She grew up in poverty almost her whole life with her mother. Her mother Vernita Lee soon gave birth to Oprah's half sister Patricia (who later died in early 2003 related to cocaine addiction). Lee was having problems raising both daughters so Oprah was sent to temporarily live with her father (Vernon) in Nashville, Tennessee.

Oprah was only 13 she ran away from home after suffering from abuse. Winfrey claims she was molested by her cousin, uncle and family friend - and only at age 14 she became pregnant, her son was born prematurely and died shortly after birth (1968).

Oprah's personal life consists of very stable people, her husband - Stedman Graham (1986-present) and her close friends being: Gayle King (who met early in their 20's), Maria Shriver and Maya Angelou (who Oprah has more of a "mother-sister-friend" relationship with). Gayle King was the host of The Gayle King Show and now is currently Oprah's magazine editor for O, the Oprah magazine. Winfrey has had a long friendship with Maria Shriver, after they met in Baltimore.

Oprah Winfrey has been in television for quite some time with her first appearance in 1976, with Baltimore's WJZ-TV where she co-anchored the six o'clock news. Oprah has also worked with, Nashville's WLAC-TV (news anchor) and WJZ-TV working as a co-host of the talk show People Are Talking, (which premiered on August 14th, 1978) as well as hosting the local version of Dialing For Dollars. The Oprah Winfrey Show didn't take place until September 8th, 1986 (originally named At the Movies) and started with hour long broadcastings.

Oprah has worked many jobs while in her industry, she has worked as a television producer, talk show host, philanthropist, and film actress and she still continues to manage all of them till this day. I personally feel she will keep working until the day she dies - she has worked very hard for what she has now, and mostly all of it it very well deserved. I have never met her but I can only imagine she must be the most down-to-earth celebrity in this current day of age. In the wise words of Oprah: "Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down." -Oprah Winfrey
