Chapter 4

Matthew was a dedicated human, I watched him as he watched me. We had a couple of stare offs (I won them by the way, He would either blink or turn away). I got bored after awhile and looked around, there wasn't really anything to do. My eyelids started get heavy, doing nothing was really boring, plus the swaying of the ship was really relaxing. My eyes closed for what like 5 seconds, when  Captain Alfred burst through the door. "Matthew!" He said in a sing song voice. "I have brought you and the little lady," he looked at me with a smirk "some food." This man is really annoying, he's loud and obnoxious. I lift myself up a little to see what he had. There was fish and something else. It had layers, the top and bottom one where golden brown and the middle was brown and the layer under it was red and round. Whatever it was, it smelled delicious. My mouth starts to water as the smell got trapped in the room. I'm guessing that Captain Alfred saw me staring. "Heh. Never seen a burger?" Burger, is that what it was? I shook my head, it looked so good! Maybe he will share some with me. "Here have some," he started to move it towards my mouth, "but when I take off the cloth, you better not try anything!" He said maliciously, taking out his sword. I could sing, and face the consequences[1], or have food. I weighed my choices. Food sounded way better, I mean come on its food. So I had no other choice but to comply. I nodded my head in agreement, he walked towards me and roughly pulled my head towards him and untied the cloth around my head. Matthew came and plopped the plate with the 'burger' on it, in my hands. "Thank you." I said. Captain Alfred turned to me wide eyed. "You can speak English!?" "Yeah and other things,too. A mermaid has many talents ya know." Matthew and Alfred seem very surprised. Alfred the obnoxious bastard he is, then said "Wow, you really are something, something that could catch a fine price in the market." I glare at him and get back to eating my food. I picked it up and went to put the burger in my mouth. When 'boom', the ship started to rattle. Captain Alfred ran out the room with Matthew behind him. "Men! Ready for the attack!" He screamed down the hall. The ship was rocking violently with every hit. "They're sinking the ship! Make them stop!" Someone up deck shouted. I heard stomping up deck. There was incomprehensible shouting when the door burst opened with the other captain as the cause. "There you are!" He exclaimed. He ran over to me and picked me up bridal style, causing me to drop my food and wrap my arms around his neck. "No! My food!" I shouted with sorrow. He chuckled and started to run. I started to wiggle to try loosen his grip on me. "Put me DOWN!" I shouted. He responded be pulling me closer to him, causing me to blush. For a human, he actually smelled nice. Pushing that thought aside, he continued to run, he jumped over some debris. "Hey!" Someone shouted. The human holding me turned around. "Aw, Ivan, so you're the culprit of sinking my ship." He stated as though he wasn't surprised at all. So Ivan's his name? "I do have to say I am sorry, the UsUk was a mighty fine ship, da." He replied. "Well I best be going." He said as he took out his gun and shot Captain Alfred in the leg. He fell to the ground and let out a shrilling scream. "Next time, don't take what's mine, Alfred." His aura had changed again. Ivan was obviously not a force to mess with. He ran up to the deck. He was about to climb on a plank connecting the two boats when the water started to rise from the ocean, forming into the shape of mermen. "The guards." I muttered. I turned to Ivan, I shrugged on his shoulder; he turned to me. "Sorry." I said. I then head-butted him, hard enough so that he would drop me. He let go, and I land on my butt. Hard. He was left in a daze, so that left me time to get away. I started to shuffle towards the edge. The guards killing both of the ships crew without mercy. "Stop this!" I shouted, but my voice covered by the screaming of dying guards and the crews. I went to scream again when something hit my head, causing me to be knocked out.

"Athena." A gentle voice called out. "Athena, wake up."
