An excerpt from, 'Kyro-Salan Writings, a Savarian Pantheon'.
In the time before the Elves and before the time of the Empires of Man, Karkans ruled the empty and vast land. Dragon-like creatures as large as castles they were and intelligent, knowing all the world had to offer, the future included. At this time, there were no Gods or heroes. Merely the Karkans.
The leader of the Karkans who had no legs and no wings but six eyes grew bored and unimpressed by the land. So, he made a new beast, Dragons. Each spawned from his scales until the head Karkan perished. Others soon followed in his footsteps. One, whom had no wings but two heads and four legs created the wild beasts of the land, like the prancing deer and horses, swimming fish, soaring birds or the ferocious bears and lions.
Then, another Karkan who was adorned with two wings and two legs met her end while she created the Savarians. People with the features from the Karkans. These people adorned scales and horns along with elongated snouts and tails. And with the first Savarian, the first homeland. They chose to dwell in the eastern coast lands. Spanning the entire coast until the seas turned solid into ice. The Savarians worship the Karkan who made them. They call her Kyro-Jyrak, the first scale.
Another Karkan with five eyes and three tails along with seven horns, hated the Savarian race. So much so they made a people complete opposite. A tall, thin, people with hair long and graceful, draping down to their heels. Pointed ears and dark almond shaped eyes, the Elves.
However, this Karkan that made them didn't give them a homeland before his death. So the Elves parted into various regions of the land.
One, to the forests on an island, another two to a peninsula in the South. One more group roamed the deserts in the center of the land. The cave Elves became darker to blend in with the shadows. The desert Elves grew taller and thinner, their skin became darker as to better suit the sun and sands. The group that claimed the seas and some islands became short statured but strong, some even living only on boats. The wood Elves became short but lean and they were formed this way to move among the trees. In order, the Dark Elves (Quelasin), the High Elves (Quelasuur), the Sea Elves (Quelamilla) and the Tree Elves (Quelaleas). No Elf worships the Karkans. They recognize the spirits of the lands from which they grew their character. Even a proud High Elf will bow to a mighty Pine Tree or a successful harvest.
The next people on the land, were Men. These men appeared from again, the Karkans. This one wanted to make a new but final race created by the Karkans before, this time for the purpose of a middle ground between the Elves and Savarians. The last Karkan who had four wings and two hind legs, made Man from his own bones. Men rule and seek power, they conquered the North and the cold forests. After many many generations of power hungry men, a splinter group traveled into a great land with hills and snow to the West. There, a new race spawned from two peoples, craftsmen who were short as children but masters of metal and fire.
The few Karkans died, but now, the land flourished and civilization sprung up. Clans turned to villages, villages to cities and cities to kingdoms. And kingdoms...to Empires. Our story begins two hundred years after the Quelasuur (High Elf) and Savarian War. In 150, the Second Age of the Eagle Empire.
In the second month of ten, day 17 of 50 is where our story begins.
