Chapter 18

I wake up at 6:00 am, "Peeta, we have to leave in an hour to get to the appointment at 7:30." "Mmm, okay." He rolls over and starts to stretch, I quickly run to the bathroom to shower. I scrub my skin and wash my hair. I'm nervous but excited. I get out of the shower and get dressed in a navy blue short-sleeved button up , with a gray long sleeve under it. I slip into my stretchy jeans and my dressy leather boots. I braid my hair to the side and brush my teeth. When I leave the bathroom , I find Peeta's not in the bedroom. I walk down stairs to the smell of hot chocolate. It brings back the good first few memories with Peeta. Peeta and I head out to the doctors. The car ride there is quiet with calm music in the background. Peeta drives like usual, his hand in mine on the gear shift. We get out of the car and walk into the doctors office. Peeta checks in while I take a seat in the waiting room. 10 minutes later , "Katniss Mellark?" Peeta and I stand. The nurse directs us to a small white room with a lot of white machines. The doctor walks in "Hi, I'm Dr. Ivy" "Hello, I'm Katniss and this is my husband Peeta." "Hi, umm, I'm sorry sir but could you step out and wait in the hall, just standard procedure ." "No, I have to stay with her. Last time I let her out of my sight, we didn't see each other for a long time and I didn't remember her. I'm sorry but it's not happening." I half frown at him because I know why he's saying that and i know what he's feeling. I didn't want him to leave either. "Okay, it's fine," Dr. Ivy begins, "when did you discover that you're pregnant ?" "Ummm, 3 weeks ago, I missed my period by"2 weeks." "Were you guys trying to get pregnant ?" "We weren't not trying , but we weren't trying." I say . "I see, well let's see how your baby is developing. We won't be able to see much because of how early it is, but well see a small blob." He laughed . He was an older man, he knew what he was doing and I trusted him. He had gray hairs in his brown mustache. He was taller than me, if I sat on Peeta's shoulders we'd probably be the same height. I doctor lifted my shirt and felt around on my belly, he was very gentle and cautious. He brought out the ultrasound, "Now because it's so early, we might not see much of anything. We could do another test but that goes about it in a much more personal level." He said pointing at my zipper on my jeans, after understanding what he's saying, I say "Ohh, well is that one necessary or ...?" "No no, it's not necessary but a lot of the OCD mothers want every test." "Ohh well no, I'm good with just the ultra sound." He finishes up the ultra sound and Peeta and I leave. We arrive home and the phone rings, I answer "Hello?" "Hey." My mouth dropped ...
