Chapter 43

I stare. Frozen. Shocked. Terrified. The person whom was thrown out the window into the bushes, in front of Johanna's house, is still unidentified. Johanna is screaming from inside the house. The body begins to move. The blonde shoulder length locks of hair blow in the December wind as they stand. "Haymitch." Peeta says. Still unable to move, I stare. He gets out of the car, closes the door and locks me in the car. I just want to help. Peeta picks up Haymitch and and puts him the back seat of the car. "Stay here Katniss." Peeta says. I begin to open my door, "I mean it." He says. I close my door. Peeta is walking inside Johanna's house. He stops and turns around. He mouths "I love you" to me and I nod with tears. He walks in side the house slowly. All yelling stops. Johanna comes running out of the house into the car. She's breathing so heavy, there's blood running down her arm, there's blood clumped into her hair. "What happened ?! Where's Peeta ?! Where's Gale ?! What's happening?! What's .." I begin before she cuts me off. "Gale broke out of the basement when he heard Haymitch. He threw vases and dishes and picture frames at us. She shows me the huge indent on her arm. She continues talking as I reach for the cars emergency kit, hoping there's a first aid kit. "He cornered Haymitch, picked him up and threw him out the window. All I could do was scream and throw things back. He's stronger than i am.. If I had gotten any closer , both Haymitch as I would be dead.." She looks at Haymitch and grabs his arm. He's still unconscious , but breathing .. I find gauze and an ace bandage and wrap her arm to stop the bleeding with pressure. *BOOM* Something fell inside. "I'm going inside." I tell her. "Katniss are you crazy ?! What about the baby ?!" I kept walking. I open the trunk and pull out my bow. I've got 1 arrow in the car.. I slowly walk the perimeter of the house.. I see in threw the window into Johanna's living room. Peeta and Gale are on opposite sides of the room, Peeta is trying to calm Gale it looks like. Gale jumps over the table and hits Peeta in his cheek. Peeta backs up and yells "IM NOT GONNA FIGHT YOU GALE!!" Gale grabs his arm from across the couch, this is my chance. I place the arrow on the string, pull it back, breathe, and fire. The arrow goes right through Gale's forearm. He drops the the ground . Peeta looks to where the arrow came from and smiles. "You never listen do you." I blush. I walk back around to the car. Peeta's carrying Gale to the trunk. He uses a 'make-do' bandage to help after he removed the arrow. Gale passes out and Peeta ties him down. He comes around the car and checks on Haymitch. "He's waking up. The car ride should help him return. Oh but Johanna , might want to keep your space, he's gonna throw up." She slides over. Peeta smiles and gets in the drivers seat. Peeta heads north, hoping that's were Haymitch had in mind . We don't stop, not for 4 hours. I spotted a lake and suggested Johanna and Haymitch clean up. She helps Haymitch to the lake. The water wakes him up and surprisingly he doesn't throw up. I walk with Peeta along the lake while they get cleaned up. We discover a sign, it's really really old, almost completely eroded. The letters we can make out says " La-e Eri- ... A gre-t L-ke!" I plug in letters hoping to make sense if it . "LaKe Eri- ... A greAt LAke!" "E-r-i-_ ... Hmmm. I don't know Katniss .." Peeta says "Okay lovebirds! We ready!" Johanna yells from a distance . We make our way back and Haymitch points North west. "Were almost there." He says.
