Chapter 41

Peeta and I arrive home late. We didn't come straight home, we went for a drive. Peeta and I drove between what the districts used to be, we drove around the train tracks and followed them for about an hour. We pulled off in a field and sat on the hood of the car and watched the stars. Thankfully, we still had the blankets from our last trip to the meadow in the trunk. The two of us sat there in silence. He laid back on the windshield with me in his arms, my belly rested on his side. I wasn't cold considering we had 3 blankets. Peeta nudged my shoulder with his elbow; I looked up at him and sat up to meet him eye to eye. He leaned in and kissed me. After he finished, he said, "We should head home. It's kinda chilly and I don't want my wife to get sick." He was too sweet. After we hugged, he helped me get back into the car. We drove home again with my hand under his on the gear stick.... Now that I'm out of the shower and in bed, looking back at the night, I'd say it was a good one. Peeta and I don't have much 'us time' since I've gotten pregnant. I used to be so athletic, in-shape. Getting off the hood of a car was easy, and Peeta now has to help me slide off. He's catered to my every wish, it's good to just spend time with him again. I get so lost in my memories of the night, I missed Peeta walk in. Him pulling the blankets brought me back to reality. "Ohh, hi Peeta." "Hey, um, mind if I turn on the tv?" I shook my head, "No, go ahead." "Are you sure?" He looked at my book. "I've forgotten all about that book." I pause and speak again, "You can watch tv, I'll read. It won't bother me." I grab 'East of Eden', my mother's book, and picked up where I'd left off so many months ago. Half way through the next chapter, I over hear the news which Peeta is watching. "The Capitol is under control of a new dictator. Her name is Commander Golde. She is the granddaughter of the deceased President Snow. Former rebel, Gale Hawthrone, has been declared missing. As a new solider of Golde's, she's made it clear to find him under all costs. Not only is she looking for Gale, but the former Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen as well. Golde believes she's the reason he's missing." I stare at the screen. I feel Peeta's eyes on me. Then as the news anchor continues, his eyes flicker back to the screen, "I've just been informed, Katniss Everdeen has married co-victor, Peeta Mellark. And they're expecting. Can we be sure she's really pregnant this time, if she truly was the first time. How long can the Mellark's hide from Golde's wrath of hatred. We'll be back tomorrow with more updates on the Capitol. See you at 10 tomorrow at channel 6." The anchor finishes then winks. Peeta's eyes fall on me again. I finally was able to look at him. I speak, "We need to get everyone and leave."
