AN~ this is back to Sabishi's P.O.V

I had wiped away my tears by the time I got to the door of the Hokage's building.
I stepped outside to see Shikamaru lying down lazily on a bench.
"Finally... hang on, Sabishi is everything alright?" Crap. How did he see through my emotionless facade?
"How could you see right through me?" I questioned
"You're acting even more emotionless than usual. Besides, your reaction told me everything I needed to know.." he said, now smirking.
"Tch... lousy, good-for-nothing-"
"Now come on let's go home or my mom will be at me all night. Troublesome woman..." he cut off my muttering
"Fine..." I sighed

While walking home, we didn't particularly strike up a whole lot of conversation. Which we were both fine with.
Finally, we were home.
I didn't tell Shikamaru about the Phoenix demon yet. After all, since we aren't super close friends yet, he might throw me out in the streets again...
"Hey, you're back! Finally! I've made dinner for us all!" I heard Yoshino call as we entered the Nara household.
We sad down at the table where I noticed Shikaku was already sitting.
Well, more like lying...
He was just lying down and staring at the ceiling, looking as if he was going to drift off into a deep sleep at any moment.
Kinda reminds me of someone. Not pointing any fingers...
"Hey dad" Shikamaru greeted, making him bolt up in surprise.
"Oh, Shikamaru, Sabishi- It's just you. For a moment I thought it was that Troublesome woman in the kitchen..."
"I HEARD THAT!" Yoshino yelled from the kitchen. I smiled slightly; they were such a close family...
"So, what's for tea Shikaku?" I asked politely
"Eh? Just some Miso soup and some rice. Nothing special, if it's alright with you?" He answered
My eyes lit up.
"I haven't really had a good and proper meal ever." I said with an embarrassed blush lacing my cheeks.
"Really? What happened to your parents, if you don't mind me asking?" Shikamaru added
"Oh them? They died before I got a chance to remember their faces. So I guess I just grew up on my own. One lady, an old lady, took care of me till I was six and taught me the basics of caring for myself. You know- cooking, cleaning etc. But one day she got heart failure and passed away. She left me a little bit of money and the apartment we lived in, but that was all." I explained.
They just gave me looks of pity which weren't going to help.
"Well, glad to be of use." Yoshino said with a sad smile as she entered the room. I could tell she heard from the kitchen.
"Thank you for the food, it looks amazing!" I exclaimed to Yoshino.
"It's really nothing much, just plain Miso soup and rice. Its totally boring!" She exclaimed modestly
"Funny how she can say that herself, but if I say it she gets totally crazy..." I heard Shikamaru mutter to his dad who nodded in return, calmly closing his eyes as if he was contemplating the meaning of life or something...
