Okay okay okay so in Italy on Christmas, instead of Santa Claus they have La Befana, right? But ya know Babbo Natale is becoming more popular or whatever. Anyway, did our folklore seem weird to you when you came here? Did you have any other holiday figures we don't? In your opinion, which is better, Italian or "American" folklore (because let's be honest, we just ripped off everybody else's stuff)? Also, sorry not sorry about the long question.
Honestly, American folklore is really strange. Like, the most popular are about a giant man (he's only 6'3" but they make him look like he's 12'2" in the cartoons I've seen) that cuts down trees with his pet, the huge blue ox. Then there's the guy that lassos tornados. Then Jonny Appleseed.
All of it is so strange and doesn't really make sense. I definitely prefer Italian because at least that makes sense. Not all of the insane stuff you Americans come up with.
As for the holiday figures, La Befana is our only "Christmas" figure I can think of. I say "Christmas" because she's not really a Christmas figure. It has been a long time since I celebrated in Italy, though, so things might have changed or I might be remembering wrong.
Overall, I like Italian folklore more and I don't think I'm forgetting any Christmas figures. Christmas in Italy is really lowkey from what I remember. We didn't celebrate on December 25th like most of the world, seeing as La Befana comes on January 6th. It wasn't really that big of a deal in Italy. Ever. Santa, or Babbo Natale, is just now gaining more popularity as is getting gifts on Christmas.
