Chapter 3

It was past noon, Hiccup and Astrid were walking around for hours, but didn't have any luck of finding the stone of good fortune.

"Okay, that's it. I give up." Astrid dropped down on the ground and Hiccup looked over his shoulder.

"Come on, were almost there I feel it"

"Hiccup. No. I cant, my feet are killing me"

"Just a few more minutes Astrid I promise" Hiccup pleaded.

"Okay, alright" Astrid stood up and started to walk again, "aren't you gonna complain about me being too "whiny" or "childish"?"

"Astrid, you've got to get over that" said Hiccup.

"No I don't, and I sure as hell don't have to listen to you everytime you-"

"Shhh" Hiccup interrupts her, "do you hear that?"

"I hear you shushing me" Astrid replied.

"No, I'm being serious Astrid" Hiccup is silent for a moment, then he begins to hear the sound of lava popping and boiling, "that way!"

Hiccup and Astrid follow the sound and finally come across a cave.

"well well well, what do we have here?" Hiccup smiles, "stone of good fortune, here we come!"

Hiccup and Astrid go into the cave followed by Toothless, but then Stormfly begins to purr and Astrid turns around.

"What's wrong, girl?"

Stormfly tries to go into the cave but she doesn't fit through the narrow opening.

"Oh great.. it's okay Stormfly, you wait out here and I'll be right back."

Stormfly purrs one more time and the three of them began walking deeper into the cave.

"Hey! Give me that!" Yelled Snotlout

"No way! It's mine now" Tuffnut said, throwing the Changewing egg to Ruffnut.

"No it's not, I saw it first" Snotlout explained.

"Well I touched it first" Replied Tuffnut, as his sister passed back the Changewing egg to him.

"We're going to win for sure", Ruffnut said.

"We? Oh no no no, sis. There can only be one winner" said Tuffnut.

"Oh." said Ruffnut, "well in that case.."

Ruffnut grabbed the egg out of her brother's hands, then he tried to grab it back. They start fighting and in the middle of their argument, Snotlout flies above them on Hookfang and grabs the egg.

"Ha Ha! So long, suckers!" Snotlout shouts from his dragon.
He landed in front of the great hall and began to run with the egg in his hands.

Snotlout ran past Fishlegs,
"Uh.. Snotlout? That's not a stone of good fortune.. it's a Changewing egg" said Fishlegs.

"Yeah, yeah, shut it, Fishface" Snotlout continued to run into the great hall and found his way to Stoick.

"Hey chief! I found the stone!"

"I'm sorry, boy", Stoick laughed, "that's not the stone. Though it does look a lot like it"

"Can we just let it slide? Pleease?" Snotlout fluttered his eyelids, "pretty please?"

Stoick glared at him and said nothing.

"Okay, I'll take that as a no" Snotlout turned around and walked out of the great hall.

"A little light, bud?" Hiccup asked Toothless.
Toothless opened his mouth and shot out a bubble of light, leading their way. They eventually found themselves in front of a huge pit with lava sizzling at the bottom of it.

"Look!" Astrid pointed across the lava pit, "it's the stone!"

"Yes, but how do we get to it?" Said Hiccup.

"I can do it." said Astrid. "there's a bridge right over there, I can cross it, grab the stone and we can get out of here."

Astrid started for the lava pit but Hiccup pulled her back by the arm.
"No, Astrid. It's too dangerous"

"I'm fine, I got this"

"No, listen," Hiccup explained, "the bridge looks unstable and who knows what could happen when you lift the stone off its pedestal"

"Don't worry about me" Astrid reassured him and pulled away from Hiccup's grip.

She walked over to the lava pit and turned her head to look at Hiccup one more time, then she jumped onto the crumbly bridge and began to lose her balance.

"Astrid!" Shouted Hiccup from the other side.

"I'm fine!" Said Astrid as the bridge slowly re-stabilized.

Astrid walked very lightly across the bridge, she lost her balance here and there, but she managed to get to the stone.

"Hiccup, I made it!" she yelled in excitement.

"Yes, that's great, now be very gentle while taking the stone off of the pedestal!" shouted Hiccup from across the pool of lava.

"Okay!" Astrid shouted back.

The stone was breathtaking, amazing colors moved and sparkled from within it.

Astrid slowly wrapped her hands around the stone, staring it down. She took a deep breath and then she lifted it.
... silence
Astrid turned around and flashed Hiccup a thumbs-up, but Hiccup seemed uneasy, kept his eyes everywhere around the room.

"Okay, come back now" said Hiccup.

Astrid began to step away from the pedestal when suddenly the entire cave started to shake.

"ohh-h no!" Astrid's voice was shaky, she jumped on the bridge but she heard it crumble around her feet.

"Hiccup!"

"Astrid!"

The ground underneath Astrid shatters and Astrids begins to fall into the lava pit. Hiccup jumps on Toothless and they fly towards Astrid and catch her before her body hit the scaulding lava. Astrid had passed out from the heat as Hiccup pulled her onto his lap, holding her ever so tightly. And flying out on Toothless.

I personally got a lot of feels from this chapter :P
