There was a girl beside him, who loved him and cared for him, but his mind was somewhere else. It was wandering about a certain Kim Taehyung. Even though he decided to stop thinking about the elder, he couldn't, it was uncontrollable."What do you think about this one?" Soyeon asked and it eventually brought him back to earth.
He looked at her and simply nodded. She entered again the fitting room while Jungkook stared blankly around him. There were couples everywhere and he realised that today was Valentine's Day. He should be happy and delighted but somehow he couldn't. Soon, Soyeon exited the fitting room with two different dresses and they walked towards the checkout.
"Oh Jungkook," The man standing behind the checkout said.
"Hey Shin!"
Shin glanced at the person next to Jungkook and frowned his eyebrows. Jungkook noticed the confused gaze of Shin but did say nothing. He took the vinyl bag and exited the shop with Soyeon.
"Someone you know ?"
Jungkook nodded and continued to walk.
As he was about to step out the mall, he stopped mid- way, hearing Shin calling his name.
"Soyeon, I have something to do. Text me when you get back home," Jungkook informed.
Soyeon was confused but didn't protest as she let her boyfriend go. Shin approached Jungkook and looked at him in a more confused way.
"Jungkook, how come you are still hiding so much thing from me, your best friend?"
Jungkook sighed.
"Can we talk about it somewhere else?"
Shin excused himself to his store manager, lying that he had some urgent matter and sat with Jungkook in their favourite coffee shop, La Brumerie.
"So?"
"So what?"
Shin sighed and put his palms on the wooden table.
"You've been ignoring me for three weeks, you come to school and leave early. You don't even show up to the music club. It's been like this since we came back from Daegu. Have I done something wrong to you?"
Jungkook felt bad for acting this way towards his best friend, but he wanted to distance himself from everything that reminded him of Taehyung. There was also another reason for his behaviour that he can't manage to confess to his friend. Jungkook shook his head and looked away, avoiding Shin's eyes
"You've done nothing wrong Shin. It's just me, I wanted some time for myself,"
"I understand but sending one text is not that hard, is it?"
Jungkook didn't answer him and kept his eyes on the outside, where people walked happily, looking ahead. There was a warm atmosphere with cherry blossoms roaming, forming beautiful pinkish dust on the streets. Spring was coming and it made Jungkook sad. It means that in less than one month, he will graduate and will no more be a high schooler.
"I'm sorry," Jungkook mumbled.
He wanted to apologise not only to Shin but to so many people he was soon going to hurt because of his decision.
"It's alright, don't feel so upset," Shin reassured by patting his shoulder.
Suddenly, Shin's phone beeped. His eyes widened as he was reading the text.
"Jungkook, are you free tonight?"
The latter nodded and soon Shin pulled Jungkook out of the coffee shop. They arrived in front of a familiar building.
"Why are we here ?"
"Please, do this as an apology for me,"
They entered the building and Jungkook's memories played with him. They were standing in front of Namjoon's apartment, from outside they could hear music blasting. Shin rang the bell but it couldn't be heard, he simply called Hoseok, who later came to open them the door.
"Hey, come in come in," he said while pushing them inside.
The spacious place which would house seven or ten people, was filled with more than thirty people, dancing to the music and some making out on the huge terrace of the big balcony. Sometimes, Jungkook wondered what Namjoon's parents' job could be to own such a big place.
He was pushed inside the crown and felt dizzy as the strong of alcohol rushed into his nose. He was trying to find a way out of this mess when a hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him into a random room. It was pitch dark inside but he could recognise this scent or the person owning this unique perfume. His heart skipped a beat when he felt the person's hot breath around his neck. He stepped back and was trapped between a locked door and the person.
"Jungkook," The person called, making the younger knees feel weak because he hadn't heard the latter call his name in such a long time.
"Taehyung," he called back.
The light was turned on in the room and Jungkook realise how close his face was to Taehyung's. He quickly walked away from the elder.
"Can you listen to me?"
Jungkook wanted to run away because seeing Taehyung's honest eyes hurt him. He couldn't bear to see the older gets sad because of him.
"I don't want to," he replied.
"But I-"
"I'm leaving for Seoul next month,"
Taehyung was at loss for words, his mouth was slightly agape and his pupils were round. He felt dumbfounded and betrayed at some point. He passed by the younger, eventually bumping his shoulder, and left the room. On the other side, Jungkook leant against the wall and held his head between his hands. It was too much to bear, too much to see the expectation on the elder's face as he was about to confess. But, he can't let him hope for too long, he can't lie to him.
That night had left two souls in deep pain and only wounds remained.
