The door was opened by Joon, who welcomed Yoonbum into the room and then quickly excused himself. Sangwoo was sitting on the foot of the bed with a table and a chair across from him. There were two boxes on the table with what Yoonbum guessed was their meal. Sangwoo smiled and Yoonbum when he came in and gestured for him to sit in the chair. Yoonbum took a seat timidly and cleared his throat.
"Hey. I, um, I brought you something."
Sangwoo looked surprised. Yoonbum thought about what Sangwoo had told him about his childhood. He guessed Sangwoo wasn't very used to getting gifts. He handed it over and Sangwoo tore off the wrapping. He held the picture up, staring at it with a mix of happiness, excitement, and sentiment. He looked back at Yoonbum, looking like a kid on his birthday.
"Bum, this is so great, I love it! Thanks, it'll remind me of you."
Seeing Sangwoo's gratitude only made Yoonbum feel worse about what he was about to tell Sangwoo.
"You're welcome. It's not much really, but I found it and... I don't know, I just thought you might like it."
Sangwoo reached behind him and put it on the table next to the bed.
"You were right. Anyway, I do have things I want to know about. I know some of this might be hard for you, but I just really feel like I need to know. I'm asking you because you know the truth and I know you won't lie to me."
Yoonbum gulped, bracing himself. There was no getting around this, he had to do it. Not looking at Sangwoo, he nodded.
"Bum? Thank you. This won't be easy but I'm grateful to you for it. So, then, uhmm, tell me everything. After I brought you back home, what happened? Why did you come back?"
Yoonbum took a deep breath. He steadied himself and looked into Sangwoo's eyes. Then, slowly at first, he told Sangwoo everything. How he felt wrong about everything as soon as he left. How he almost turned Sangwoo in. How he had been in danger so he went back to the house for shelter. And finally, how he had found Sangwoo and re injured his head and landed them both in the hospital. He also mentioned how he had kept Sangwoo's secret by lying to the police. Throughout his whole explanation, Sangwoo listened intently, hanging on to his every word. Yoonbum tried to illustrate his feelings, too. He tried to let Sangwoo know how at first he had been scared. He had thought he was doing the right thing by turning Sangwoo in, but in the end he couldn't go through with it. Of course, he mentioned how he had finally realized his feelings for Sangwoo. When he was done, he looked up cautiously at Sangwoo. Sangwoo was sitting as still as a statue, his eyes wide. Yoonbum closed his eyes and sighed, ready for Sangwoo to tell him to leave or that he hated him. Sangwoo shook himself and his face softened.
"I guess I sort of deserve that. In fact, you probably should have turned me in."
Yoonbum opened his eyes, surprised at Sangwoo's words.
"You're... not mad? I almost got you arrested and I... I made you try to kill yourself! Don't you hate me?"
This time Sangwoo was the one who looked surprised. He started to shake his head aggressively.
"Of course I don't hate you, Yoonbum. Hell, this whole thing started because I loved you too much. I could never hate you. And besides, I completely understand your feelings. Anyone would have felt the same way in your place. I'm just so happy you came back."
"I came back because I remembered I love you too. We both know what happened, but I don't think it was such a bad thing. Who's to tell us what's right and wrong anyway? You protected me because you love me and I love you back. You're going to get better and we can pretend like this never happened."
Sangwoo grinned so widely it looked like it hurt. He nodded once and then laughed lightly.
"I promise I will be better, Bum. I said I would protect you and I will. And look, I want you to listen to this: I tried to kill myself because I thought you wouldn't be part of my life anymore. You're my whole world, Yoonbum, and I don't want to ever be without you. As soon as this is over, We'll be happy, don't worry. I'll take care of everything."
Yoonbum moved over to sit next to Sangwoo. He rested his head on his shoulder.
"Sangwoo. I'm happy now. Just like this."
He looked up and saw Sangwoo's face so close to his, looking back at him. Nothing else mattered as they both leaned closer and let their lips touch softly. Yoonbum let his eyes fall closed and he felt nothing but the warmth from Sangwoo's lips and an overwhelming feeling in his chest. Sangwoo wrapped his arm around Yoonbum's waist and pulled him closer. Every second they touched, Yoonbum fell more in love with Sangwoo. By the time Yoonbum was supposed to leave, the two were holding hands with their dinners gone, laughing and talking. Neither had ever been happier and they both knew the future was going to be even happier.
