After Elijah's outburst I stopped playing standing up as his mother enthusiastically started clapping.
"Oh what a delightful surprise. She plays such beautiful music it must be hard to find a pet with such skills. Tell me how much did you pay for her?" Vivian said resting a hand on Elijah's lap. From the chair Alaric narrowed his eyes at Elijah words being exchanged that I couldn't hear.
"I paid an exceptional amount. Nothing I can't afford I assure you. Come pet indulge me let's take a stroll in the garden." Both Elijah and Alaric stood up. I walked over to Elijah handing him my leash. Hoping to escape his parents, we left the room. We made our way through the doors at the back of the foyer. We walked silently past the pool to the garden. Elijah sat down on the fountains edge. Patting the spot next to him I sat down.
"Why must our parents be deep down our throats?" It didn't sound like a question that was meant for anyone to answer but I couldn't help it.
"Nit picky fuckers. Probably stuck in their old ways." Elijah pulled on my leash.
"It's not safe for you to speak in such a manner with my parents around." Elijah looked worried, I don't see why; I was his pet it's not like they could do anything about it.
"Yeah, one wrong move and you might as wear a sign that says drink me." Elijah shot a telling glare at Alaric. Almost as if to say to him that he was not helping.
"Look I'm just trying to help, besides that conversation was so heading to her history. And if dad finds out all her crimes she's committed, well..." He was cut short as Elijah stood up getting in Alaric's face.
"That's enough Alaric. You don't think I already know that? I just, I'm figuring it out." Elijah ran a hand through his hair I looked into the water not recognizing the girl there anymore.
"What's wrong brother you look pale, have you been getting enough blood?" Alaric spoke and I turned my attention to Elijah he did look a little pale.
"I'm fine." It sounded like he was in pain because he said it through his teeth.
I felt bad he does so much for me and I do nothing for him. If I had to pick cleaning for him or giving him blood, blood sounded better. It meant I'd be light headed and he'd have to take care of me. So it's like a double win for me. I spoke.
"If you need some blood why don't you just drink from me then." I wish I hadn't said that. I wasn't sure I actually could tolerate being a donor. Elijah had frozen then turning he walked over to me so we were eye to eye.
"I don't have to read your mind to know that's not what you want. Besides drinking from a human is sacred, special." I let out a sigh of relief okay so he won't bite me. But if it's so sacred and special why do other vampires go around sucking on whomever they want.
"The lord has special responsibilities, but with great power comes great responsibility, because whoever he drinks from if they have a connection it becomes very strong and that girl could even become Queen." Connection? I don't have any connections with him. But he'd drink from me if he wasn't worried that we had a connection. Elijah pushed Alaric, but it seemed pretty pathetic, he must really need blood. Alaric, the sweet brother that he was, left us to be alone in the garden. It took a real man to walk away from a fight when the other one was vulnerable.
Elijah came over to me I took his head into my hands as he nuzzled into my shoulder. He gently kissed my neck, I know you're not supposed to trust vampires but Elijah hasn't done anything to take my trust away. I put my hand down on the fountain trying to readjust myself my hand slipping and the gravel scrapping me. I felt Elijah pull back quick he looked down at my hand that was stained with a drop crimson. His eyes went from there normal gold to a fire that raged inside him. He got closer to me his fangs bared. I got up trying to put space between us. Would he really risk it?
"Elijah! What in gods name is going on here?" I was still numb from the fear that held me still. I didn't have to look to know it was his dad who spoke.
"Drinking from your pet, what a disgrace to the family you are. I should've made Alaric the Lord." Elijah's eye color changed again as he whipped around on his heel to confront his dad.
"I am the Lord! You didn't get to choose I'm the eldest! I'm sorry I'm always such some big fuck up in your eyes though father. No matter what I do you always look for something to critique me on! I can't even blink without getting a scuff! But this is my house now. I'm in power, and somehow that just gets under your skin doesn't it?" His father didn't say anything something mixed with anger, ego, and self-agenda flashed in his eyes.
"The things you do represent this family and the name I worked so hard to build up." Almost as if they had this fight a million times silently they both stood at a stand still. Neither budging both to alike one another before finally Elijah gave in.
"Yeah dad? Well fuck the family name." Elijah pushed passed his dad making his way out of the garden. His dad stood still awe struck for a second and then headed off in the direction of a car. It looks like they weren't staying the night. Joy and something of regret fell onto me. I really did like his mother she tried so hard to keep the peace between the two of them. I never knew how even rich bloodsuckers could still be human.
