"Thank you. We will let you know if we want you back." Oliver examines the table in front of him one last time. One of the people behind the table whisper to another before whispering to the third person. He gives a quick smile and sets the script down. "Well thank you for your time and I can't wait to hear about the cast." They don't take notice and continue talking. Oliver smiles one last time before leaving the small theater.
He walks down the hallway which is lined up with several people ready to audition. He leaves the theater and makes his way down the street. Immediately, the heat hits him. Oliver takes a deep breath before rolling up his sleeves. He passes by the local gas station, Lucky Ed's, and runs into Danny.
Danny and Oliver have been friends since Middle School. With his slick black hair and white shirt, it was almost like he wished he was a greaser.
"Hey Oliver. How's my brother on this fine day." Oliver gives him a quick fist bump. "Sweating. But hey, it could be worse, Danny." Danny rolls his eyes. "Yeah yeah, it could ALWAYS be worse. Also, I'm going by Dan now. It sounds more mature." Oliver nods, "Okay...Dan."
He smiles. "How'd the audition go?" They start walking down the street again. "Okay. I think they saw...potential in me." Danny laughs, "Yup. They always see potential in you. Just like that winter show you tried out for last year? Or the fall show before that? And let's not forget-" Oliver cuts him off. "Wait. Look."
Their eyes turn down the street. On the corner is, "Rosie Donaldson." Danny gives a whistle, "She's got them short-shorts on. Only fitting for a day like this." Oliver gives him a stink eye. "You know I don't like it when you talk about her like that." Danny bites his lip. "Man, you really get me sometimes."
A big man comes out of the store they are next to and hands Rosie a soda. "Damn. She's with that douchebag Frank." Oliver turns to him again. "He's not a douchebag. He's just...rude sometimes." Danny shrugs. "Yeah yeah, whatever. Are they back together?" Oliver nods. "I guess so."
Two women interrupt their conversation. "Who's back together?" Oliver gestures to Rosie and Frank. "It's Rosie and Frank. They're back together." One of the girls turn to the other. "Rosie and Frank? Didn't they like just break up or something, Julie?" Julie, the shorter of the two, nods. "I think so, Jessica. Like last week." Danny smiles, "Yeah they did. And now she's ready to forgive him again before they break up again in an hour." Neither of the girls laugh. "Maybe this time it'll work. Don't doubt them, Danny." Danny bites his teeth and laughs. "I'm going by Dan now. It's more mature." The two girls look to each other and laugh before leaving. "Sounds good, Danny. Let us know how that works out." They cross the street as Danny spits at them. "Buncha witches."
He turns to Oliver who is staring at Rosie and Frank. "Take a freaking picture, it'll last longer ya creep." This snaps Oliver out of his daze. "Sorry. It's just pretty hot out." Danny nods, "Hey man, I gotta get back home. My old mans gonna kill me if I don't do my chores." He runs down the street, giving the finger to a car that almost hits him. Oliver looks up at the sun before slowly heading back home.
