Her eyes open slowly and she is staring at a ceiling. An unfamiliar ceiling in a place she has no recollection of. She looks around and finds a lady sitting in the chair in the corner.

"Denise, are you okay? You've been asleep for a while." Adrianna gazed at the woman for more than a few seconds without saying anything.

"Do you need me to get the doctor?" The woman spoke again, this time with a concerned tone.

"Who are you? Why did you call me Denise? My name is Adrianna!" There was silence between the two.

"Honey, I think you're just confused. Go back to sleep and I'll get the doctor." The woman peaked outside of the door and motioned to the doctor.

"She's awake." The woman tells the doctor in a worried tone.

"Well that's great!"

"Yes, it is but she doesn't know who she is."

The doctor walks pass the woman and goes straight to Adrianna.

"How are you feeling, Denise?"

"Stop calling me that, my name is Adrianna!" He frowns as he shines his miniature flashlight into both of her eyes.

"Ok, Adrianna. Can you tell me your date of birth?"

"August 14th, 1999"

"August 14th? 1999? What are you talking about Denise? You were born April 3rd, 2004." The woman face turns red and her voice fills the entire room.

Adrianna's heart begins to race. She feels a rush of tears coming to her eyes.

"I'M NOT THIRTEEN! " She screams at the woman and startles the doctor.

" Yeah, I know your not thirteen yet! Your birthday day is in a week!"

"How old are you?" The doctor tries to calm her down by speaking in a gentle voice.

"I'm seventeen. I'll be eighteen  in August. I'm a junior in high school. I have a best friend named Elise. A mom, a dad, a brother, and a dog. My name is Adrianna Clove. I'm not Denise, I'm not eleven going on twelve. Please. Help me."

"Doctor as you can see, she's delusional! Can't you give her anything so we can get her home as soon as possible?"

"No! I'm not going home with you! Who are you?"

"I'm your mother, Denise! Why is that so difficult for you to process?"

Adrianna sets her head all the way back on the bed. She feels something tickling her neck. She pulls all of her long brown hair over her shoulder and stairs at it for a good minute. Adrianna always had brown hair even when she was Adrianna. It had never been as long as "Denise's" hair.

"Your father is on his way with your sisters. Please don't act like this in front of them."

Adrianna shut her eyes. She thought about everything she could remember in her first life. Her family, her best friend, her car, her tattoo. Adrianna's eyes bolted open and she pulled up her hospital gown. If she was going to prove that she wasn't Denise she wanted to show her crescent tattoo she got with Elise. When she finally got the gown over her hip the only thing that was there was a birthmark. A birthmark that looked like a crescent. She began to cry but she didn't know whether to be happy, sad, confused, angry, or all of the above. While waiting for her "father" and "sisters", Adrianna laid in her hospital bed in silence. Although her "mother" would try to start a new conversation every fifteen minutes, Adrianna tried her hardest to go back to her old life. It felt like a dream, so she tried pinching her skin to wake herself up but nothing worked. The last thing she remembered when she was known as Adrianna was her lying on her bed because she felt terrible. Maybe that was it. She thought maybe something had happened to Adrianna.

"Did I die?" She whispers to herself but the woman hears her.

"What was that Denise?"

"Nothing!"

A panic rushed over Adrianna. She didn't want the be whoever Denise was. All she wanted was to be Adrianna again.

"I am Adrianna. I am Adrianna. I am Adrianna." She repeats the same three words in her head about fifty times, hoping she would wake up as herself again. The doctor comes in the room but this time he has a chart in his hand. He was looking through Adrianna's chart, technically Denise's chart.

"I have Denise's paperwork here. She will be okay. We've done all we could to help her and now she just needs time to heal."

"Heal what?" What happened?"

"Don't you remember? You had an accident in soccer and you suffered a head injury. Nothing major." Her "mother" seems to be becoming impatient with her.

"Uh no! I don't remember, because I'm not your daughter! I'm not Denise. Please don't call me that name again. Doctor, can you please contact my parents? My real parents! " The doctor is just as confused as the woman was.

"Ms. Green, your mom is right here and your dad is on his way. They are your only parents. Do you need to talk to someone?"

Adrianna roles her eyes and tries to fall asleep. If she was going to continue to live in this nightmare she needed to find a way to get in contact with her real parents. She would do anything to be with her family again.
