"Whoa... just a hold on there!" Angelina gasped. "I can't just up sticks and whizz off with you to some far off galaxy or other!"
"Why?" was his simple answer.
"Why? Seriously? Bugger off!"
"Again, I don't understand the bugger off words, but I can try to explain why you should come with me." The Reef offered.
"Go for it. Not that it'll make a scrap of difference" Angelina sighed.
"Well, I know that you are an exceptionally intelligent human - I feel it in you. In fact I feel something more than human in you and that makes you even more exceptional. I am guessing that every bone in your body is screaming at you to come with me to my planet. You crave knowledge just as I do - it is what has driven you throughout your short lifetime. If you do not come with me now, you will regret that decision for the rest of your life, wondering what you might have seen, might have learned to bring back with you to earth..." The Reef's words were compelling. Everything he said was true, exactly how Angelina felt.
"How can you know so much about me and how I feel?" she asked.
"My race has some powers of telepathy. We cannot say what someone is thinking, but we know what they feel. I also feel something different about you physically. It is like your DNA isn't quite... clear. Am I making any sense - it is difficult to put into human words what I can feel?"
"You're making complete sense..." Angelina admitted. She knew about her unusual creation but it was something she would never tell anyone.
"I would be lying if I said I didn't want to come with you, but I can't just leave. You've already said your planet is four light years away! That would be a round trip of eight years without even stopping and that's supposing your fancy wheels here could travel at light speed. I can't just go - it would crush my parents; they waited so long and worked so hard to... have a baby, and it would devastate them if I disappeared."
"So, tell them." The Reef replied matter of factly.
"What?"
"Tell them. Go home and talk to your parents, or write to them if you think they might talk you out of coming with me. Oh, and journey time to Saven in my ship is just 7 earth days. Like I said, we have some very advanced technology, especially for space travel. Go home and tell your parents. I think they will believe you when you tell them about me." The Reef concluded.
"Oh, they'll believe me alright. The problem will be convincing them not to come with me!"
"So, go Angelina. Tell your parents that you are coming with me. I will wait until just before dawn - if you're not here, I will assume you are not coming." With that The Reef gestured to the platform and accompanied her and Penfold out of the Astral Gaze.
