When I say Informal and formal ways, it means the way you talk to a person.
Formal way of speaking is when you are talking to :
- your boss
- Co-workers
- your teachers
- strangers
- people of "higher" respect
- etc
Then when I say Informal Way of speaking, you are talking to:
- your close friends
- your parents, if they allow
- close family
- basically people you know are close
