Miles' POV:

Once Leila left, my father asked me to follow him, and so I did. He led me into his office where he took a seat behind his desk. He offered me a seat, but I declined his offer. I felt like standing, not sitting. I was mad at him for talking to Leila like that. She is a nice girl, who he doesn't even know, and yet he has the nerve to order her around.

"So, you have some nerve showing up here." said my father. "How dare you come here and expect everything to be okay."

"How dare I?! How dare you talk to Leila like that. How dare you leave things unresolved between us. How dare you bring this stuff up at mother's party!" I yelled.

"Don't speak to me like that, especially in my house!" demanded my father. "If you don't recall, you are the one who started this subject long ago. You are the one who got into your line of work and disgraced this family with your bull."

"Oh please, give me a break."

"I thought your mother and I raised you better than this, but clearly I am wrong." added my father.

"Mother did everything. You were hardly around anyway. After all, you were the old crime boss who was constantly working. And you quit, when the cops were on your tail, so you became a lawyer for scum bags who were guilty of their accused crimes. How am I the bad guy?"

Before my father could retaliate, my mother walked into the office. I turned around. She walked over to me and put her hand on the side of my arm.

"Miles, Leila is downstairs, you might want to join her before more men start hitting on her."

I looked back at my father and then I walked out of the office. I went downstairs and found Leila sipping on some wine in a corner.

Miles's Mother's POV:

I am standing in the middle of the office. I waited for Miles to walk out of the office. I turned to look at my husband, once my son was completely gone. I was so angry at my husband right now.

"What do you think you are doing?" I asked.

"What? Can't I have a conversation with my son?"

"Yes, but as long as it is about a different topic and as long as it is not at my party." I shouted. "I am sick and tired of this Mathew! Miles can take care of himself. Stay out of his business!"

"I can't Marry!" yelled my husband. "I won't see him go down like me."

"So, this is what it is all about. You are jealous of him. Because you got caught and he hasn't. You wish things didn't happen to you this way, and now that things are working out for Miles, you are jealous of your own son." I explained. "How dare you Mathew."

"Oh come on Marry, don't lecture me. I will do as I please with him. If I want to talk about this with him than I will, but I don't need you coming in and saving him."

My eyes widened. How dare Mathew even go there with me.

"I will do anything for my son! I raised him and I will do anything to protect him, even if that means I have to protect him from you. Miles has a wonderful life right now, not only because of his work, but because of that girl, Leila. I've seen the two of them together. The way he looks at her. I hardly ever get to see my son because of you. He is twenty two Mathew. Soon he will have a family of his own." I snapped. "It will eventually get to the point where he won't even come over anymore. We won't get to see our grandchildren if you keep this up."

I paused. I turned away from my husband and walked out of the office, shutting the doors behind me.
