Having finished the movie, we exit the movie theatre, two hours later.
"That movie was good, wasn't it?" Soo Mi says.
"Yeah." Minseok agrees. "I liked the scene when the main character died."
"You sadist." Soo Mi gasps.
Minseok childishly sticks his tongue out. "Yet you love this sadist." He claims.
Soo Mi rolls her eyes. "And this sadist loves me." She plays along.
I watch sadly as Soo Mi and Minseok flirt with each other, wishing that I was the one in Soo Mi's shoes. I bite my lip. "Stop it, Sonagi." I mutter to myself. You can't do that to Soo Mi. I tell myself. Besides, even if Soo Mi and Minseok weren't married, I would still have no chance, seeing how deeply in love Minseok is with Soo Mi.
"About you?" I hear Soo Mi's voice suddenly.
"Huh? What?"
"I asked about your opinions on the movie; did you like it?" Soo Mi asks.
"Mhm yeah." I answer, inexpressively. I actually hadn't liked the movie at all. It was a romance film in which after twenty years of no contact or relationship whatsoever, the main female lead still ended up with the main male lead. The two had been best friends since childhood, and had been madly in love with each other since day one, then went their separate ways as they grew up.
However they met again twenty years later, and fell in love all over again, then happily married with three kids in the end. It was so unrealistic, really. Things like that just don't happen in real life. Or at least, that didn't happen for me and Minseok. We had first met in elementary. My uncle had been good friends with Minseok's dad, so we were forced to hang out a lot as children.
Both of us, having been very shy children, we weren't friends right away, and didn't even really officially hang out with each other until junior high. Nonetheless, we were still considered childhood friends. Minseok met Soo Mi six years ago at my aunt's funeral, and sometime around then, they fell in love. After dating for a solid three years, Soo Mi and Minseok decided to get married a year later.
I know I'm in no position to feel this way, but I find this all extremely unfair. If in dramas and movies, the childhood friends always end up together, then why, why am I not the one in a relationship with Minseok?
